ADSL issues - please help

This started yesterday afternoon.

1) Almost unable to connect to MSN messenger, and when I get connected the connection doesn't last long.

2) Impossible to connect to any file download programmes such as Bittorrent, Limewire or Azureus.

3) All other (eg web browsing and e-mail)works 100%.

I am with Webafrica and I use a Telkom ADSL line. I have tried resetting the router to no avail.

I am quite honestly technologically challenged, anything that I can do to find out WTF is going on without having to contact Telkom?

I'm having the same problem with MSN. I've been messing around with my router settings, MTU size, UPnP, all sorts of stuff... and it's still having issues.

It's driving me crazy.

(router is a Netgear DG834PNUK - but since nothing has changed and it was working fine before, I'm going to assume it's not the router.

I have had some problems too. Everything works except a specific activation-type service.

I dropped MSN long ago as their service keeps on getting disconnected.

Tried Google Talk as well, it also had the odd disconnect here and there.

I'm using Skype - and it works much better - fewer disconnect issues as the first two.

Guys, just to recap:

1) Router is working perfectly, all settings are as was before this.

2) I've run the MSN messenger diagnostics, this is what I got...

ran a repair on the faulty bit and it gave me this..

im convinced that it's either a service provider, local exchange or ADSL problem. MSN messenger has always been very reliable from my neck of the woods, and the fact that no file sharing software manages to log in points to some kind of fault. I will get in touch with webafrica first thing in the morning, if all else fail (God forbid) I'll have to endure the usual 45 minutes of listening to repetetive recordings and then get through to someone with the IQ of a crab louse at Telkom

I have huge latency's. WA and SAIX are working on my problem. Might be related.

Its a shame there's no neotel coverage in my area otherwise i probably wouldv gone for the 2.4mbps uncapped - how much does that work out with everything included? line rental and the lot?

i checked their site but could only find R999 for the uncapped account..

But i dont know if i would be able to give up 1.6 mbps of my speed for uncapped :/ no wait i probably would
