I have a problem at home, on the 28th December 2011, my Internet started packing up continually.

I checked my Internet Solutions Connections stats, and found the following:
1. 27 December 2011 – No issues
2. 28 December 2011 – 1 “Call-Disconnected” at 14:40pm.
3. 29 December 2011 – 175 “Call-Disconnected” errors
4. 30 December 2011 – 110 “Call-Disconnected” errors
5. 31 December 2011 – 460 “Call-Disconnected” errors
6. 1 January 2012 – 260 “Call-Disconnected” errors
7. 2 January 2012 – 237 “Call-Disconnected” errors

I logged a fault to Telkom now, but they keep on telling me that I WILL PAY IF IT IS NOT A LINE FAULT!!!
Sounds like they are trying to intimidate you! Whats up with that?

I have a 4mb/s Line, that is currently running at between 800kb/s and 2.8mb/s - When they did a test of the new 10mb/s lines I was lucky, I was connecting to 8.5mb/s, those days are LONG past now, not even getting proper usable internet, and paying full price everyday...

If anyone has the same problem, let me know, I`m sure this cannot be localised to only my line...

Raptor.

Hi Raptor

I know when Telkom started doing there upgrades we had alot of clients complaining of flapping lines,
We came to the conclusion that if you are far from the Exchange or have bad copper, After the upgrade you will lose connectivity more often...

P.S if you can PM me your adsl line number I can check if you are far from the exchange...

Regards
Keegan

I sent the info via a PM.
On the other hind, after the upgrade I actually got a 8.5mb/s sync, no problems, and that was month ago, so it was fine for some time. Although it did not stay at 8mb/s, it went down to 3mb/s +- and then slowly even further over the past month to below 2.8mb/s and even 0.8mb/s now...

We can only hope....

Hi Raptor

I replied to your pm, It seems like a definite line fault at first the exchange might have had less capacity that what it has now? Maybe Telkom did some changes on the exchange, Wouldn't know... but the line speed you say you have is not consistent with the speed your line is actually syncing on at the moment....

Regards
Keegan

Thanks Keegan.

I initial started off way back when with a 384kb/s line, then later upgraded to 4mb/s, they could not get full 4mb/s so I always connected at lower than 4mb/s but as Telkom does not guarantee 4mb/s (only 1mb/s) they said it was a best effort.
Later I complained and they recreated my port on the DSLAM, and there was a fault in one of the boxes, so they fixed that, it then worked on 4mb/s for some time.
It has now started coming down again over the past year or so, very sporadic, sometimes more than 4mb/s and other times around 2.8mb/s etc...
Not that you ever able to use the FULL speed when downloading something, so even if I had 4mb/s I was only getting 240kbytes/sec, so you learn to live with it....

I`ll test tonight with a different router and let you know tomorrow.

Thanks

Raptor (Mike)

By the way, have not specifically stated it.
But if I run tests on the line via my router, it continually changes, every test is at a different sync speed.
In a 5 min window I could maybe doe 10 - 12 tests, and every single time it has a different sync speed. From there the figures of 0.8mb/s up to 3.5mb/s(Very Seldom)

:wtf: Now that is just painfull!! I'd say you should bug them to go have a look at the exchange to make sure everthing is ok :P
what router do you use at the moment and what router are you going to test with?

Oops, got lost with the different makes... I had D-Link modem, and a Linksys Wireless gateway, but I replaced that with a D-Link DSL-2640U WIRELESS G ADSL2/2+ 4-PORT ROUTER.
It is about 6 months old...

The one I will be testing with is being used here in the office, works fine: Marconi Vanilla Telkom router (That they issue with ADSL)

Thanks

Michael

Cool cool, Also make sure you have the latest firmware on your routers :)

Yes, I dont see a update for the DSL-2640U WIRELESS G ADSL2/2+ 4-PORT ROUTER out since 2010 though, I`ll have a look again.

Thanks

Raptor

Hi Raptor

How'd it go?
I see different speed sync today hehe..

Hi there K.

I used that OLD Marconi router, and I also updated to a New GOLD Uncapped account.
Still haveing sync errors, but cant see the logs as I use to with the IS account where I can see why it reset. ie Call-Disconnected.
With the new account I am with SAIX and they dont give you the detailed errors like IS. (Maybe they have something to hide? - LOL)

Anyhow, still have the outstanding call with Telkom to come out, so I`ll tell them to recreate the Port and check on the Exchange side what is wrong, since I tried that number you gave, but it has changed, it is the 1021(Something) number now, and the wait there is 20+ min of holding on, before they cut you off, and you have to call again.

So in summary, the line does seem better to be honest with the "Older" router, might be because it does not care as much about noise etc, as the newer ADSL +2 routers do, and it still does loose sync, but I CAN STILL NOT GET 4MB/S - best I got was 2011kb/s - I know, ironic that it is the same as the old year.... LOL

They need to check out why I am not getting 4mb/s or more.

Thanks
Mike

Just did a query on my Fault number... Guess what the status is:
Current status for Fault 142cwk030112 : Open

Not Accepted, or Attending........ OPEN as in the status it goes into when it is logged originaly!
