Hi there
Today I wanna 2 swap my adsl internet from Desktop PC to my HP Laptop.
I use telkom Router, and if I plug the network cable in from the router to laptop, my laptop cannot "acquire a network IP adress"
I have phoned my server provider, and the answer I got was:"Sir, it must be your cable that's not right, thank you"!!
Duh.........I'm using my desktop pc to send this message with the same stupid cable.....(WEBAFRICA!!)
Can some 1 please assist me here. I have done the following already
1)Uninstalled the network driver, and redetected it..nothing
2) Created 200 new newtork connections....nothing
3) Rebooted 200 times...nothing
4) Rebooted my router...nothing
5) Disabled, Repaired the connection...nothing
What else can I do please?
Thanx

What network driver is this that you have been installing & uninstalling? - if you really have a Telkodemonopolies ethernet ADSL modem, then you should not need any special driver(s) for the ethernet ADSL modem.

How is the router configured? - bridged mode or PPPoE?

PS: No point calling your ISP to ask them about a Telkodemonopolies router - you should have called Telkodemonopolies on 0800375375.

I meant by uninstalling the driver is actually my hardware Nvidia Network driver under Hardware properties.
My router is PPPoE configured!

So you setup individual pppoe sessions on the pc and the laptop? The router doesn't negotiate on behalf of your network?

Hakuna Matata bru!
Check in ur TCP/IP setting on both ur desktop and laptop if they're set to automatic aquire IP address...
Then check in the router if its set as "router assign DHCP"
If they're all fine then maybe ur router's a bit stuffed...or the cable  hahaha!!!

my network places
view network connections
find your network adapter
right click and select properties
double click tcp/ip

make sure everything is set to obtain automatically

The thing is that the notebook would presumably not be reporting the "cannot acquire a network IP adress" error message, if the notebook was set to acquire a LAN IP address from the router [automatically via DHCP].

IMO the problem is either the DHCP settings on the router [e.g. restricted according to MAC address], or on the notebook - maybe the default gateway or subnet mask are incorrect - something like that.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the Telkodemonopolies router, so I don't know what else to suggest.
