Ok, my line is screwed. About a month ago my SNR Margin went from 39 down to 9. Sync losses every 30 mins or so. Logged a fault a week ago, and obviously, no solution yet. Tonight it is crazy - up for 3 secs at a time, then looses sync again. Saw this on my router just now:
Item Downstream Upstream Unit
SNR Margin 2147483646 12 dB
Line Attenuation 40 22 dB
Data Rate 0 0 kbps

2147483646 - beat that SNR! Prob got the router while it was resetting its variables. Looks sweet though, just too bad about my Data rate...

Telkoms response : "Please bear with us"

Bleh! :(

Did you recently upgrade your adsl line?? from 384K or 512K to "upto 4mbit"..

Cuz i heard about ppl who's line don't support it. The line tries to run full speed but sync's out every couple of minutes.

Some people claim it sometimes runs fine for a hour or two. then disconnects.. others disconnect every 2-3minutes

Yes, actually, I did upgrade to "up to 4mb", and I also thought that that might be the problem, but thing is, after the upgrade, line was solid as a rock for probably 2 weeks. Then the problems started.
Telkom said something about "a lot of people on your exchange are experiencing problems".

Hope it is something that can be fixed... 512 just does not sound all that exciting anymore after having the 4mb line... :o

true...

i also recently upgraded from 512K to 4mbit. and its Sw33t :>

what your exchange??

I have a similar problem.

disconnects every 2 hours and getting 2500 CRC errors in 35min on 384

Billion 7404VGO Firmware 5.551.rc2dg1

Will load BiPAC7404VGOAv507 and then try 7404VGOAv508a.dg8

I'm not sure what my exchange is, but I am in the fourways area - GOOD times currently !
Item Downstream Upstream Unit
SNR Margin 9 12 dB
Line Attenuation 39 22 dB
Data Rate 4096 384 kbps

(ok,ok, I know it is not that good, but atleast it stays connected.)

I am going to be REALLY pissed off if they tell me I need to downgrade. And they probably will. I am reaching the point of going door to door in my neighbourhood, and find out if anyone else have a 4mb line that runs ok.

BTW d3c, your SNR looks VERY good, Attenuation is a bit dodge - AFAIK (from other threads, the attenuation is influenced by your distance from the exchange) - but that is a LOT of errors on the line.

Will let you know what "they" say when they eventually show up to have a look.

Sync Light - General disconnectivity

Just to add to the "Telkom doesn't know what they're doing" saga, I live on the outskirts of a small suburb, and when applying for an ADSL line, was told I can only get a 384K line, as the exchange does not support anything higher. I can't get iBurst here, or any other service, so I had no choice. Eventually, my home line was "upgraded" to ADSL "capable", and so the troubles began...

I reported a line fault the day after the "installation" (read as: recrimp two copper cables into a new wall-mount box). My router's sync light (Netgear DG834 V3) just flashes, and connects sometimes. I bet everyone has already heard this story...

Anyway, the Telkom Technician came over, and could not find a fault (??!!) (btw: does line attenuation of 56db mean anything?). He was very friendly and understanding though. He left his "test" router set up at my house (Marconi "Broadband" router). It was up for 9 hrs straight before he came to collect it, and "close the job". I told the technician that this was exactly the problem (line is up then down intermittently). He insists that it's my router. I am an onsite PC support technician myself, and set up about 4 or 5 ADSL routers a month. This kind of fault is usually ALWAYS a line fault. Anyway, I thought that perhaps my Netgear was too "new" for this old exchange, (as I've tried 3 brand new ones since, and they all exhibit the same problem). I've now tried all the different firmwear updates (even a BETA!) and still the problem persists. I have also tried adjusting the MTU to lower than the default (which is 1492). I've gone down to 592 (dial-up modem default), still no joy. I want to try an older router next, but has anyone else experienced this kind of problem? I am sure there are some ppl out there...

I had the exact same issue. My att + SNR basically swopped. It was the wall box. A wire coming into the box wasn't making decent contact. Sometimes it's something simple
