Good day I need some advice.
I have a problem with my ADSL line where every day it keeps dropping around 19h00. During the day its 100%. I think it could be line congestion but that only makes the line slow. I did report it but the technicians never heard of such a problem because its time based, or that’s what I have been told.
So any ideas?

The same here ..... anytime after 17h00 till about 23h00 the internet is none existent, even basic browsing is not possible. It's been like this for a few months now and we had 3 or 4 different Techs out and they checked everything. The line is fine ports have been refreshed, recreated and rebuild. At one stage the port rebuild worked for about a week and then it started again. SNR margins and line attenuation is always good but when you do a trace during this time the second hop is always between 1000 -5000ms which is horrible.

From what I have heard there's not much you can do about congestion until Telkom decides to upgrade their network..

Most common causes I've seen for this sort of issue are related to phone calls being made. With a time so specific I've usually found it to be something like an alarm system that does a "phone-home" once a day. If any device is on the phone line without a pots filter it's going to cause the line to drop.

Just a possiblity to look into if you havn't already.

Does the ADSL line totally drop? Like you lose sync?

If so, maybe there is a power box for street lights next to the telkom box. This will cause EMI and disconnect the line.

Happens to a friends office ADSL everyday when the lights turn on cause of this.

How bizarre. I've been experiencing the same issues lately but Telkom have not given me any feedback.

Thanks for the reply’s

I don’t use the line for a phone only as a ADSL line, it sonly the router that is connected to the line so I don’t think its alarm related. A few months back I had a similar issue but that was due to a congested line, but that was sorted within the month. As for the streetlight I have no idea but will have a look into i

Thanks for the info

Jip the line drops then connects again just to drop 5 minuts later, and this gos on thru the night up until 06h00 then all is good

Is there anything in the area or your poperty that switches on at that time? I would start by disconnecting everything including flipping off the breakers only having the router connected & breaker for that outlet on and then start adding one thing at a time flipping on breakers as required. Heard of electric fences & some other things interfering.

7-6 .... well seems like your box must be next to a timed power box...
