Hello All

First time posting, so please accept my apologies if i have done this in the wrong place. I have read quite a few post on here about this problem, and still cant find what the problem might be, i have done a few things that i have read on other post without any luck.

The problem i am getting is that the my 10MB/s line will drop at random times, maybe 20 times a day, depending on how active i am to spot the down time, it will come back on in 30sec and might drop 20min later or even as close as 1min later.

Here are some of my router reports:

Mode: ADSL_2plus
Type: ATM
Status: Up

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 60 82
Attenuation (dB): 495 300
Output Power (dBm): 195 121
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 6452 1103
Rate (Kbps): 5475 1023
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.24 0.24

HEC Errors: 69 302
OCD Errors:0 0
LCD Errors: 0 0

Total ES: 11 0

and this is the log i get when it goes down and up again

Now i have done the latest firmware on the router(dlink DSL-2750U)

and i have logged a fault with telkom.

But maybe one of you could see something from my stats that might indicate something that i can work on.

Thanks for the help.

Your SNR margin is not great (6Db) ... it should preferable be higher.
That is considered the bare minimum to sustain a stable line.

See here...
http://www.speedguide.net/faq/what-is-considered-good-dsl-noise-margin-snr-355

But there could be many other factors as well.

1) Check your line filters. You should have a clean line filter on all analog devices in your home.
2) Watch out for other electrical equipment near your line - Auto light switches, DB boards, etc.
3) Your line might be shared between you and a neighbour.
4) There might be congestion on your exchange.

Etc.

Thanks for the link, that was very informative.

How did you work out that it was 6DB?

this started 3 weeks ago, and i have been living here for 2 years now. So it seems all very odd.

So can i cancel out that it might be a router fault?

Not sure, I was just going by this line... SNR Margin (dB): 60 82

Maybe somebody else can tell us more clearly what those numbers mean.
Best thing to do is to borrow a test router from a neighbour and see if theirs works.
Telkom should also bring a test router when they come around.

Just out of interest, is all the line equipment still Telkoms?
The jack and the wires? Do they all belong to Telkom?

How long are the jacks and wires from the outside of the house?

And which suburb are you in?

Hi, here in PMB I experience the same issues.
Also lots of websites are unreachable, e.g microsoft.com etc.
These are not DNS issues, but something else is happening.
Currently using proxy to connect to unreachable websites, so thats fine.
But the connection uptime is 40 minutes at max here.
