I've recently moved across from iBurst to Axxess ADSL and have been loving it. Speed is amazing and I can actually play games online without disconnecting every 15 minutes.

The only issue I have is that at least once, sometimes twice a day my line will drop and it I basically have to reset my router/modem 2 - 3 times to get it to reconnect successfully. Trying to just reconnect doesn't work. I honestly have no idea what is causing it and I'm in two minds as to whether it's a line problem or a problem with Axxess themselves.

I'm inclined to believe it may be a line issue as I haven't seen any other complaints similar to this aimed at Axxess and I have set my router and modem up as per the technical guide on Axxess' website.

I may be missing something obvious here and was wondering if anyone could shed any light on what it may be.

Thanks

I use Axxess to supplement my Telkom account and it seems that they definitely disconnect you once a day. I can see this when using a connection set up through Windows (not the router). However when using the router to make the connection, it's ok because the router reconnects whenever the connection is dropped automatically. I use the free Siemens router supplied by Telkom.

hi,

i worked at a UK telecomm's co. for about 4 years from tech to engineering. just letting you know so folks dont think its another chump giving random advice.

if u need to reset ur router to regain connection its usually 1 of 2 things. either a faulty router. or a buildup on ur line that gets released by a power cycle. ooooor it could just be a line fault. i will try mention as many things i can think of on this lazy sunday afternoon..

faulty router is easy to test of u have another router lying around... if its as simple as your line speed is set to high for what your line can handle. your router should resync automaticly after it droppes sync. try a firmware update if it doesnt. run to the router and check the sync light when u lose connection.

buildup on the line is not so easy to test. it can be caused by several things. i will try and mention as many as possible so u can check against them. check these few things in your house to rule out your side of things.
faulty Microfilter(POTS filter)
faulty router....
faulty cabling
faulty phone socket on the wall.
other phone equipment on other sockets in the house.
your phone cable runs past electrical equipment in your home interfearing with the signal.
your router is not plugged into the first(master) phone socket entering your home.

then there are things that are out of your control and hope that the telecomm's tech guy can pick up.
bad copper connections at the distrobution points leading from ur house to the DSLAM
simple line fault (telkom should pick it up)
ur line runs close past electrical equipment outside ur house, like street lights (dumb but true)
faulty port/card on the DSL card at the exchange.
ur port configuration on the AXH600 (DSLAM)is not setup correctly for your line, unfortunatly telkom use predefined settings for all lines which is not right at all, since all lines are different. it works for most lines but not all. it can be set individually but yea...

right, im not bored anymore. i hope u get this sorted.

Hey all, thanks for the help.

I have a feeling it's my line as I've noticed this week that while it is a 4MB line it randomly connects at 2MB at times so I've asked Telkom to look into it.

Big thanks to access for the advice tho.

I am with Axxess - they do not resset lines, as far as I know. In the short period that I have been with them I have not seen them drop my line once.

Phone Telkom (0800375375) and tell them to check your line out. I found them to be very helpfull -especially if you phone in the evenings. They can do various things like "refreshing" your line etc. They will also be able to tell you at what speed your line is "synching" at ;)
