Yo guys, im sitting with a crappy issue. somehow my lines keeps on dropping.
only way to get it back up again is by restarting the router.... its really bugging me.
iv tried different ISP accounts, i even changed my router aswell. im currently using the new Billion 800vgt from telkom.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi Fiekz79

Welcome!

Have you asked TI to refresh your port at the exchange? This helps. Should you still experience the problem, also try another router, if possible. Thereafter, your best bet would be to log a fault. Any other thoughts guys?

you most likely have a damaged line if your line is dropping constantly it means that your noise margins are low, so it keeps desynching. I had similar issues i had 4mbit for about 3 weeks was perfect then all of a sudden it dropped about 200 times in 1 day, so i had to change my synch profile to 2mbit my line hasnt dropped for about 400 hours , except when i had to plug it out coz of lightening.

a port refresh does help sometimes, but sometimes it could just be your port at the exchange or something is wrong with the dslam. Best bet it to get them todo a test on it with a tech on the phone he can tell you the quality of the line, and then if that is the case like i just lower your profile to a slow speed, it sucks but what is better a fast unsable line or a minor lower line with a better up time.

Hey, had same problem with the same router, all you gotta do is pack that modem in its box and give it back to telkom. I got the new siemens router from them no hassle and my line doesnt drop. I thought the problem lay in my line but the tech's monitored it and was no problem. Just go to your nearest telkom direct shop. simple as that

Craig its not simple as that..

You cant just assume its the router because the line drops. the line needs to be tested, the synch margins need to be tested etc..

I have had a line dropping issue in the past, it troubled me for about 6 months. I tried new routers, filters etc etc but they did not help.
Telkoms only solution was to downgrade my line to 2mb, however, we weren't happy with that.
Eventually a techie investigated the nearest telephone pole to find that the entire box had been corroded. He replaced it and my line was perfect :)

Good luck getting it sorted out ;)

Guy, thanks alot for all the info. like i said, i swopped out my router from the MEGA 200 VWR to the new Billion 800vgt. Used different accounts aswell.
So im guessing the fault might be in the line, i just hope i dont have to drop my line speed.
So il get home 2day, call telkom & have them check my line status or they might have to send out a techi.
Should i even bother changing my router to the Siemens?? my buddy has one, he said its been working 100% since day one......

The router is not the problem clearly if you've tried two modems.

Changing the router would not solve your problem. You should call tTelkom to test your line attenuation and single- to-noise ratio. Your line attenuation should not be above 55db and SN ratio must not be below 6db.

I would suggest that if you are using a 4096kbps account downgrade it to 3072 Kbps. How far are you from the Telkom exchange DSLAM?

I knew it had nothing to do with the router, im located about just under 3km from the exchange.... im gona give telkom a call now coz the problem actually getting worse. will update you guys.... thanks again

we've also had the same problem since mid January in the Joburg CBD. It's partly the fault of all this rain. It is making everything wet. The manholes on the street corners are often full of water.

But you should still call Telkom on 0800 375 375 and get a reference number. Call them every day and ask them what the progress is until it is resolved. Ours is only just starting to come right.

Called Telkom now, i waited about 2min (LUCKY ME!!!). all the guy did was refresh my port at the exchange.Line seems stable at the moment but lets wait & see.

I am having the same problem. No willingness to fix the problem. Our last call got closed even though it wasn't resolved. So back to the same old story...
