Hi.
What's the difference between renting an ADSL line with Telkom rather than any other ISP?
I know that Telkom charge a R169 rental fee and other ISP's charge around R149 which is cheaper but besides cost savings, is there any advantage paying Telkom the ADSL rental fee rather than other ISP's?

With certain ISPs you can change your line speed on the fly pro-rata, and you can manually reset your port yourself (if you get a problem with your adsl line)

The problem seems to come in when you want to change ISPs iirc...

Having your ADSL line with an ISP makes swopping ISPs quite inflexible. MWeb for example will screw you over and make it difficult to move and you will then have to ask your current ISP to release the line to Telkom before another ISP can take it over. You will not be able to move for example from MWeb to Afrihost (it's not like porting your number from one cellprovider to another).

I would personally stick with Telkom and use the 25% discount on the line itself (there is another thread about this). Upgrading lines is not an issue - I just did this with Telkom and switching from 4Mbps to 10Mbps was done over the phone in a few minutes and the same was then done at ISP level. Resetting the port should never really be a requirement. I doubt that you will save a lot of money via the bundle deals - unless you are certain that the selected ISP will not cause issues.

Thanks. I will take your advice and go with Telkom ADSL line rental.

Hi

At AfriCentral ISP, we will gladly transfer your ADSL line back to Telkom if you have migrated your line to us and you find a need to go elsewhere.

I would however suggest the following.

If you migrate your line to us, we will give you 5GB's of data on the house for R 165.00 per month.

PM me for more info.
