Not the actual speed you get I am talking about the line speed that your router reports.

ATM my router reports 512K thus I will not be able to get 1024K when it comes out.
Oh okay, sorry :o

Data Rate:
512 kbps Downstream
320 kbps Upstream

Location:
Durban North

Was 640/384 before...

Angellus, how do you know that you won't be able to get 1024K when it comes out?

If I remember correctly, my router and most other people's used to return 2048 kbps down, 640 kbps up when ADSL first came out. When they did that whole change from fast path to interleaved, all the speeds got adjusted (lowered).

I'm sure it'll get adjusted again accordingly when 1mbps is released.

Modem
ADSL Firmware Version 3.00.12.00
Modem Status Connected
Connect Mode G.DMT
Down Stream 512kbps
Up Stream 320kbps
VPI 8
VCI 35

Correct - at the time of installation my router reported similar numbers. These were never the speeds I was able to obtain though - I wish they had been! It went fast mode - interleaved - then back to fast mode for me.

AFAIK the actual speed is set at/after the dslam. As long as your router isnt reporting a speed lower than what you should be getting you should be fine.

ATM mine is reporting:
Up Stream 384 (Kbps.)
Down Stream 640 (Kbps.)

I've got a 192k connection and my is reporting as

320 down
192 up

I also used to get 2048 reported by my router a while back, now it's 640. A Telkom techie once came out to my place, i had a fault and according to his test equipment i could get 8192 on my line and he was quite clued up, the 5th person to come around and be able to finally fix my fault in 1 and 1 1/2 months.

I am now getting 451kbps international download.

Northern 'burbs of Jo'burg:

"DSL Speed 320 Kbps Upstream, 512 Kbps Downstream"

Used to be 640 down, 384 up....

This is actually in line with what the teckie told me when they installed the line. Apparently they are chaning the sync speed to fit the package that you have. The line can still run faster though but sound like they allocate less bandwith to your port just the amount you need plus 128k apparently for overhead. Something like that.

Rondebosch, Cape Town:

DownStream Connection Speed 512 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 320 kbps

was 640/384 when I last looked (a few days ago)

I have 192 package

and am getting :

Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 320 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 192 kbps
VPI 8
VCI 35

been like this since it was installed

Angellus the techie said that the are going to be changing all ports to these settings all the new enabled exchange will also be like that so basically the downstream is your package. In my case 192K + 128K which would show 320K. I think the upstream on 192K is 64K plus 128K which would show 192K

It was a very brief question when they were installing my line. I noticed it and asked the question and that was the explanation.

Mine has gone down too

Down Stream 512kbps
Up Stream 320kbps

Berea, East London

Maybe they are just changing their method of controlling down/upload speeds - from software driven at their routers to the DSLAM side...

When was your speed changed to that? If you don't mind me asking what area do you live in?

Unfortunately, I don't know the actual date. At first I thought it was my router, but after a complete reset, it was still reporting those speeds. It could be that someone on my exchange is a tester for the DSTV/ Telkom thing.

I live in Randburg, Boskruin and my exchange is right across from Rhema church.
