ADSL Line speeds

Hi

I have the Telkom 384kbps package.
My download speeds vary anywhere from 28kbps to a maximum of 38kbps.

Is this correct in terms of download speeds?

Yip - those sound about right. On a 384kilo bits per second line .. you should get a max of between 38 and 40 kilobytes per second. I also have a 384 line and regularly get sustained downloads of around 39kbps.

The 28 sounds a bit low, but that could just be the server you are downloading stuff from.

yes you get 384 kiloBITS per second, you are downloading at 28-38 kiloBYTES per second.
8kiloBIT = about 1 kiloBYTE.
so 384 / 8 = 48, then theres over head or something like that.
anyways I have a 384 line aswell and I get normally about 38kiloBYTEs per second, sometimes in the 40's

Sounds about right. Depending on time of day, server the download is from and load on the network, I get between 20kB/s and 40kB/s, with the average somewhere around the 35kB mark.

i also get about 38/39 max on my 384kbit line

i have a 512 line that seems to work only some days ok, one second its gud, next its bad, i have no downloads runnin or a virus. when i ping telkomsa.net i get when its gud 26ms but then some days or hours il get 400ms. and i get 13kbps on a 512 line even goes to 2 kbps. Telkom has been out a few times and every time they come out its ok for like 1 day, Can any one tell me what could be the cause of this.

Also when i go run,, "ping saix.net -t" it goes:

Atm i have a 0.26 mbps download speed i did by speedtest.net meaning 2.6 kbps on a 512 Telkom ADSL line
