Hi

Please can somebody point me into the correct direction on understanding ADSL Line Stats and be able to get some default values to use as a troubleshooting base.

How could these stats help with troubleshooting.

This is my current stats

Operational mode G.Dmt
State Showtime
Trained transmit bit rate 128 kbps
Trained receive bit rate 384 kbps

Upstream power 10.3 dB
Local Fast channel FEC error count 0
Local Interleaved channel FEC error count 0
Local Fast channel CRC 2
Local Interleaved CRC 0
Local line attenuation 28.5 dB
Local signal-to-noise margin 37.0 dB
Local LOS 0
Local SEF 0

Remote Fast channel FEC error count 0
Remote Interleaved channel FEC error count 0
Remote Fast channel CRC 0
Remote Interleaved CRC 0
Remote line attenuation 13.5 dB
Remote signal-to-noise margin 31 dB
Remote LOS 0
Remote SEF 0

Thank you very much.

Hi

There are many things you can take into consideration, but I usually only care for these.

Attenuation Rates:

20bB. and below = Outstanding
20dB-30dB. = Excellent
30dB-40dB. = Very Good
40dB-50dB. = Good
50dB-60dB. = Poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB. and above = Bad and will experience connectivity issues

For S/N Margin Readings:

6bB. or below = Bad and will experience no line synchronisation or intermittent synchronisation problems.
7dB-10dB. = Fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions.
11dB-20dB. = Good with little or no synchronisation problems
20dB-28dB. = Excellent
29dB. or above = Outstanding

If these are good, then start experimenting with the others.

Howdy all,

I understand all the line stats and what is good and what isn't, but by how much would these stats change as line speed increases? ie would my line be able to run at 4mbits? I am currently on 384

Down up
DSL Noise Margin: 21.5 dB 40.5 dB
DSL Attenuation: 19 dB 30.5 dB
DSL Transmit Power: 14.1 dBm 10.3 dBm

They look good enough to do an upgrade, but there's no way of knowing for sure until you actually do it.

Swede, is there anyway to get telkom to test what my max line sync is before with out risking having to pay to downgrade if i only get like 2mbits? Or would I need to make friends with a techy for that?
