Hey guys just wondered if you guys could help me with my ADSL connection losing packets/connection temporarily

Here is the information from my router (Marconi 4 Port Ethernet router) :

-------------------------------------------------------

SNR Margin 9.8 / 12.0 dB
Line Attenuation 53.8 / 30.0 dB
Errored Seconds 40958 / 5
Loss of Signal 2 / 2
Loss of Frame 0 / 0
CRC Errors 36736 / 5
Data Rate 4096 / 384 kbps
Latency FAST FAST

--------------------------------------------------------

I notice that the CRC errors and errored seconds are very high. Why could this be? It has been like this since the last time the techie came out to our place.

The problem im having is that, for example, i would be having an MSN conversation and not be receiving anyones messages - i suspect it has to do with these errored seconds

Is there anything i can do myself, without calling the techie up?
I thought its worth an ask because it could be something as simple as a setting.

I am with Telkom Internet

Thanks for your help

I just wanted to add that the PPP connection doesnt disconnect as such - it stays connected, it just loses some packets (like the MSN problem i explained) and after a few mins its ok again

I thought I would live to never see that router gateway in my life again! :p

I hated that router.

Sounds like your line is stuffed mxit_fan, it's not a setting, so I would rather get the techy out and possibly get a new router as well ;)

eish tera thats not what i wanted to hear...

you see im scared of these techies.. they always walk away leaving more problems than there originally were

:( guess ill have to make the dreaded 1 hour phonecall....thanks

Perhaps its related to the British weather we've been having. Half the phones here are full of static atm due to the bad patch-jobs between the pole and some of the phones & rain. ADSL is still dry though :)
