Well heres a rather length first post from a networking
and adsl newbie, so please excuse the ignorance.

Well i have subscribed to the mydroadband forum now, in
desperation. We have been phoning telkoms ADSL
helpline at 0800375375 since yesterday morning, right
through till 01:00 am. The line is always busy and its
impossible to get through. I have also sent numerous
emails to [email protected] but no response
has been received. i cant imagine how busy these
offices must be, and i pity the poor folks working
to resolve the problems, however i am now quite
desperately looking for a solution to what i feel
must be a fairly simple problem.

we have bought a Mega105WR router from telkom, and
have followed the activation, verification, wiring and
software installation instructions, using ethernet cables
to connect our router to pc, and using the windows vista
O/S. Everything seems to have gone fine, the router lights
are all as they should be and the most of the diagnostic
tests seem to have passed. i am able to log into the router
using my browser and can access all the settings options,
however we have 2 problems at this stage.
============================================================
1) I am only able to access the telkom.co.za website
pages using my ADSL connection but am unable to access
any other URL's eg google.co.za, yahoo.com etc

2) I have been unable to send or receive e-mails, despite
having changed my account properties from using my dialup
to my LAN connection.
==============================================================
my observations at this stage are as follows :

I have noticed that when i switch my router on and check my
Network & Sharing Center on Vista, that there is an exclamation
mark warning icon between My computer icon and my network icon.

I am able to clear this warning by following the instructions
that appear on clicking it, namely, that the IP address for my
computer is incorrect and that i need to reset the router in order
to correct this. Once i have reset the router, the exclamation
warning icon dissapears, and doesnt reappear as long as the router
remains switched on.

There is a further red "X" error icon between the Network icon
and the Internet icon. When i click on this to find out how to
resolve the error however, i am told that this error cannot
be resolved by vista and that i need to contact my ISP or
administrator, in order to resolve this problem.

well i am patiently waiting for a response from telkom, but in
the meantime i am hoping that some networking gurus can
give me some advise on additional tests that i can do myself.

Are you logged in using your own ISP details or the guest@telkom account?

you most likely have not entered your isp username into your router

i changed the guest details in the installation and entered my ISP username and password

1. who's your ISP, if it's not telkom, you better off trying to phoneyour ISP support helpline.

2. In IE, type in the address 10.0.0.2, enter your router username and password, Look for the status button to see if you are Connected or Disconnected.

3. If you did a self install on Do Broadband, its possible your isp portion is not activated. Phone 10219 to ask them to activate it.

i have not entered my username into the router manually, but
i did it through the cd-rom installation. I have checked the
settings by logging into the router with my browser, and the
username is correct, and is the one that i was using with
my dialup account

i have an account with telkom, the status button on logging into 10.0.0.2 says connected, i did a verification on the telkom.co.za website entering my phone number and reference ADSL number and it says that its been processed. I will try phoning again around 1:00 am, but appreciate any further suggestions

get telkom on the line again, although your verification was done, it might have failed, the verification site might have said "successful" or "completed" but that message is only half the time accurate. ask them to reset your verification and do the verification again.

even before you do all of the above, reset your router, many of these routers need a reset "out of the box"...and configure again.

yeah i reset the router and re-installed the software but still the same problem. bear in mind also that i am able to view all the telkom.co.za website pages its just everything else that i cant view. ille be phoning them again around pumpkin time , any other suggestions ?

all i can think of would be to redo the verification and ask them to reauthenticate your account, try phoning EXACTLY on 11pm, shift changes at that time.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread, tough issue for a customer to troubleshoot, you've pretty much done all you can except bogging them for a technician. Tough part is you can only get through after 30 mins, so it's not like you can phone them every five minutes until they get agitated enough to do something. Feel your pain on this one. End of the day if they can't help you by phone, force the issue into getting a technician out.

ille let you guys know what happens after 12:00 am. i am just holding thumbs.

I think 4AGE is probably 100% correct. I had the same issue after my self install. Could only get to telscums site. Verification was done but after phoning them and holding for just under 2 hours the lady said there had been a problem with the verification and she had to reset it. I verified again and it sorted the problem immediately!

you should probably state how the issue was resolved.

I have had similar problems with a Mega 105WR.

Does anyone know what the default admin username/password is, so that I can access it via 10.0.0.2 and check the settings ?

Yes--if anyone knows what the default username and pasword is, that would be great.
