ADSL modem and SMC Broadband router setup?

Just got my SAOL line up and running yesterday.
It's currently connected to dlink 2500u modem, but I want to connect it up to an smc wireless N broadband router for wireless access.

Are these the steps I must follow:

Enter modem settings, enable bridge mode, remove username and password?
Connect cable from modem to router and then router to computer
Enter router and enter the isp username and password?

What am I missing, I don't want to fiddle and waste time?
Can someone list the steps - did some googling and want to make sure.

I got the same setup. You got the right method, so it should all work. What I would also do is do a hard reset on both the modem and router before starting. Also between each step give the devices some time to settle, give it 1 or 2 minutes I'd say. Seems to help the modem/router figure things out.

So it's correct to leave the username and password blank in the router, just enable bridge mode.
Then enter the username and password in the broadband router.

Lol, you got that mixed up -
no password/username in the modem
Insert password/username in router
There is one setting you may need to set in your modem, cant remember what its called but I do remember it must be 8/35 for SAOL. Top left of that print out on how to set up your connection IIRC.

VPI 8
VCI 35
Encapsulation: LLC
Bridged Mode

Ethernet cable from ADSL router to WAN port of Wireless Router.

In Wireless router:
Connection type: Cable
Username: adsl username
Password: adsl password
Service name: none
IP Address: Dynamic

That should cover 90% of possible questions the average semi-capable technophobe could request

I also have the DSL-2500u connected to SAOL. However, I am sick and tired of this "Strict NAT" and port forwarding problems. Does any know how to completely disable the router part of the modem or even recommend a plain DSL modem that does not have a router. I tried every trick I could find including software that auto opens ports for various games, port checkers, etc. I always have problems. Any help would be appreciated.
