Cape Twizy ...
Hello there, I am not sure if anyone can help me ... for about 2 weeks now I have been on a relentless yet fruitless quest for a modem (ADSL) not a lot of places I know around cape town sell these can anyone if possible suggest a place I can buy a modem at.

I am looking for an ethernet Modem and I am sure some of you guys now of a couple of places I can get one around Cape Town .... please assist ... already applied for ADSL service from Telkom. any sort of response would be appreciated.

PEACE!!!

Hi there, you can contact Cybersmart on (021) 461 0014 for Billion ADSL modems and routers. These modems are all ICASA licensed and offer very nice security features at excellent prices. Alternatively you can contact Nology in Pretoria, who are the importers. They ship anywhere in South Africa - (012) 543 2204.

Good luck!

I got my Netgear DG834 from Computer Mania in Cavendish in Claremont.
They normally don't stock it but just ask for one and you get it the next day as they are dealer for Duxbury.

Had any succes yet?? If not, I can get you most ADSL routers at a good price. Give me a shout!

w00t!!! Sorry guys for the late response .... I am very humbled by your prompt response ... :D .... Thanx a lot !!!

@ hArTh : Tried that and eish!! It didn't work nicely for me... Dlink gave me a number for a company in Pinelands and those gusy just referred me to other places cause they don't sell directly to the public ... ;) ... a bit exhausted.... whew!

@ tibby.dude : Computer Mania are currently out of stock but will try again 2 morrow .... none of their branches have ADSL modems at hand ... Cape Town, Cavendish or even Canal Walk .... talk about luck... ...

@ Nology : Cybersmart seems to have something interesting going on ... but I'm sure I can do better ... their price is cheap but I'm not really sure .... is Billion reliable? I tend to go for popular brands .. but @ the moment anything goes ... they are on top of my list @ the moment.

@ HillBilly : Thanx a lot for this link, I think this now takes the top spot , according to Dlink the 300G has been replaced by the 300T and it's going for R 494.00 Including VAT ... that's amazing ... now theres gotta be a catch ... do I have to opt for delivery or can I collect myself or .... how did you do it?

@ King : I'll try to pm you if I can ... still need your advice!!!

Once again thanx a lot guys for the efforts I really appreaciate it....

There is a computer store in Tygervalley opposite Edgars near the information counter on the top floor that had a Netgear DG632 and DG834 on the shelf when I was there last weekend.

Unfortunately I can't remember their name ... they used to be Software City before they were taken over by somebody else.

I saw that Billion was also recommended and that you're not sure about its reliability. I have a Billion 5100S ADSL modem and it works like a charm. This is also a single ethernet port modem but you can also get the 5100 with 4 ethernet ports for a fraction more. I know that Telkom has recently purchased a large order of Billion ADSL modems and routers and they are all ICASA licensed. I also know that other major countries' Telecoms are selling only Billion ADSL modems including Deutsche Telecom, Telia (Sweden) and Cegetel (France). You should make sure that the modem you purchase is ICASA licensed (sticker on box). Check out www.billionsa.com for all their ADSL modems and specs.

NN.. If I'm in the area I normally pick up.. they're in Paarden Eiland.

Great Stuff!!! I work in Pinelands .... and Paarden Eiland is just a "stonesthrow" away ... :D ... can take a detour on my way home ... :D ... Thanx!!!

@ Kale : Well I must say the Billions seem to have good features but money talks .... :D ... if I can't find a price I can vouch for .. then I'll go for the DLink 300T ... Where did you buy yours Kale ?

PEACE!!!
