I've just got my adsl line from Telkom, after the usuall delays, ecxuses and lies, of course.
Now here is my main problem: I have WinXP 4 pcs connected to a hub and a D-Link DSL-300T modem, also connected to the hub. Obviously, I would like to have internet access to all 4 pcs. After struggling the whole day, I've gotten nowhere.
Here are the settings I've tried:

1. Modem's dchp server ON and 1 pc with tcpip set to 'obtain ip address automatically'
Result - access to the modem and internet, but on 1 pc only.

2. Same as above, but on more than 1 pc.
Result - WinXP freaks about ip address conflics and no lan.

3. Modem's dchp server ON and each pc with its own ip address, correctly entered within range.
Result - no communication with modem.

4. Modem's dhcp server OFF.
Result - no communication with modem.

Please, if anyone knows how to set this up, I would really appreciate it.

Option 2 is the best solution.

Make sure you configure enough IP addresses for the DHCP server to lease to clients. This is done on the ADSL router/modem DHCP configuration page.

IP Pool Example:
IPs: 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.200
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: Set to the internal IP of the ADSL router/modem.
DNS: Set to the internal IP of the ADSL router/modem.

On Clients:
1) Enable DHCP for IP and DNS
2) Click Start -> Run
3) Enter "command"
4) Type in "ipconfig /release"
5) Type in "ipconfig /renew"
*) To check current TCP info, type in "ipconfig /all"

Thanks for the reply. However, the problem is still the same - WinXP complains about ipaddress conflics.
Could it be that the network hub does not support PPPoE?

Make sure the modem/router is configured as "always on" and not as a dial-up PPPoE connection to the ISP.

The router must automatically connect to the ISP, and act as NAT server to translate internet queries for clients. I think it is called "Routing and bridging" in your modem settings.

In which port nr of the hub are you plugging in the DSL router ???.

Try another one which is as far away as possible from the uplink port.

Actually, it is a network switch. Would that be a problem? Should I get a router?

I've solved the problem, finally. Here's the situation, in case it helps anyone else.
I connected a modem (not router) to a network switch with 4 pcs. The modem's dchp server only gives out 1 ip address, which cuases ip address conflics. Solution, I bought a little router and now everything works fine. :)
