Hi all

Hope someone might be able to shed some light...

Have a Debian gateway/proxy connecting to the ADSL router POTS thing with pppoe. Everything working well till one morning this week, no internet connection. Linux machine apparently can't connect to the modem. I try the pppoeconf script on 2 other debian boxes, same issue. Tried with SuSE DSL Yast setup - again - no connection happening. Then I try with a broadband router - and it wont see Telkom either. Its possible to connect to the router and get net access if its a client on the network, but the thing hangs and needs rebooting too often - i think its NAT gets confused..

Oct 23 05:35:24 meerkat pppoe[9042]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets

This is the error message in logs when trying to run ppoeconf.

Nothing was changed on the original gateway and no apparent intruder either.

Any help/pointers/suggestions would be appreciated :-)

Cheers, Burgess

Hi Burgess,

don't fret ( well, maybe do ). The problem isn't on your side but on the telskum exchange, it might be the port on the exchange is locked. Call the ADSL help desk and they should sort it out.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion grubman. I called, and they seemed to know nothing about locked ports - but they did suggest I take the modem to a telkom shop to be swapped for a newer one with newer firmware. Telkom Randburg were very obliging.
