Hi

Can someone please recommend some good ADSL USB Modems? I currently use a Netgear Router, but want to buy a USB Modem. I've had a look through previous posts, but don't seem to see any that stand out as exceptionally good.

Thanks

The D-link are always good.

D-link DSL-300T ADSL modem ; 8Mbps downstream / 832Kbps upstream , 1 x 10/100 utp

D-link DSL-504T ADSL router + built-in ADSL modem + 4port switch ; G.dmt : 8Mbps downstream / 832Kbps upstream ; G.lite : 1.5Mbps downstream / 512Kbps upstream

D-link DSL-G604T wireless ADSL router + built-in ADSL modem + 4port switch , 802.11g ; G.dmt : 8Mbps downstream / 832Kbps upstream ; G.lite : 1.5Mbps downstream / 512Kbps upstream

There is also the billion Range but they are just over priced... You'll also find some cheap unknown brands that don't perform to badly.

None of them are USB lol

Geek - Any particular reason you want a USB modem. The ethernet routers are better, because you don't need a machine switched on 24/7 to share the internet.

I goto agree with Franna... usb modem... but then if you want to be connected directly without farting with routing...

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, I have had no problems with the router - works fine. I need to get a modem for a member of family. I think it'll be safer having them "dial up" as opposed to it being connected 24/7.

:)

Would the firewall in the router not protect them a bit better?

I have one you can have

Hi

I have a USB modem that you can have at no cost. I am using the ASDL POTS router instead.

Would a Router with a built-in firewall be recommended?(Obviously I suppose :P) Or is it just as good if I have my own firewall?

If you can, get one that supports USB and Ethernet.

I have a cheap as chips old Thompson Speedtouch USB that has never failed. (Once I found the drivers)

Hi, I have a Telkom USB POTS modem I'm not using. Yours for R200 if you want. For some reason I cannot PM you..
