Hi

Seems like my Netgear ADSL modem from Telkom is overheating and dying :(

Which make of ADSL modems should I get for my ADSL line. Any recommendations?

Hi diegoa

My personal recommendation is SMC as I use it and have not had any issue with it to date.

There also a range of routers to choose from on our website .

I got mine from Computer Mania but that was a while ago.

I'm not sure if they still stock it.

I'm a big Netgear fan, so if you don't mind risking it again, go for something like the DGN2000!

.... or you could just go for the D-link DSL-2640U (sort of an all-in-one) - ADSL modem + wireless router + 4port 10/100 switch

but if you only want to supply internet to ONE PC the 2500u is perfect and retails for about R240

True, but from my experience, nothing beats the Linksys WRT54G with dd-wrt firmware, and then it acts as a wireless broadband router with 4 port ethernet switch (it even runs linux so you can do route splitting, qos, etc if you want) which you can use ANY adsl modem in bridged mode with... so if lightning zaps your adsl modem, buy another cheapo dsl modem and you've still got your router, assuming that wasnt taken out too. Can also keep configuration and swap modems easily this way. Only negative is that the WRT54G is very pricey still, and wireless-N is mainstream already, maybe consider the WRT300N/350N, or if you know your stuff, then a Mikrotik router such as the RB750 is absolute win

It's a great device, I have about 5 of these routers =) Except, it's not an ADSL Modem... you still need an ADSL modem, such as the D-Link DSL-2500U, to use with the Linksys WRT54G(L)

True that, should have mentioned that....
I've been running with an 'ol cheapo DLink and its running 100s!
