ADSL noise

I installed a new phone line (well they replaced stuff on the existing one) and ADSL last week. ADSL (2MBps) only took 24h to activate. Which I thought was pretty great. Until I actually wanted to use it. I am not sure about my distance from the DSLAM, but a bunch of people in my complex have stable 4Mbps connections.

So now the problems. My Netgear DG834GT (Broadcom) does not want to sync at all. Then I tried a Billion router,
it kind of syncs. Not sure of chipset. I see it has to revert to G.DMT. Downstream I sync at 2MBps, but upstream I only sync at around 64k if I am lucky. As soon as sync, a lot of noise floods my phone (There is zero noise when the modem is not synched). White noise and some weird tones. Yes, I have filters. I tested multiple and bought new ones as well. I know the filters block the DSL frequencies because when I place them infront of the DSL modem, then it cannot sync. Anyways, spent hours with Telkom on the phone. Logged faults. Nothing. Tried a port reset, nothing.

Obviously the noise is not in the usual DSL spectrum, which leads me to believe that my port at the DSLAM is broken. How many hours do I need to spend with Telkom to get this checked out? Alternatively, any thoughts?

Had a similar problem with a client, once the ADSL line was upgraded it worked correctly.. Also went through all the above with no luck. Telkom came out a few times too and had no clue on how to rectify the problem :/

Makes me believe the port at the exchange is the problem or between the exchange and your house in the line somewhere.

Did you verify your ADSL line correctly through the Telkom site?

The verification failed, then I phoned Telkom..then they said it went through. Whatever that means. the ADSL Checker on their site only shows the exchange supported speed and not my line speed. Sigh. I can actually sync and get data over it, so something is connected. Just something is broken as well.

You need to call telkom, get them to reset the verification on that line so you can re verify the ADSL line correctly. Once you have re verified the line it should say successful and online within 30 minutes.

I have had this problem before, keep in mind when you verify the line you need to do it from the location.

If you are unable to access the Telkom website check the default Settings in the router.
Settings should be:
User: guest@telkomadsl
Password: guest

Then try access: https://secureapp.telkom.co.za/ADSLVERIFY_NEW/verifyRequest.do

Who and what department do I speak to, to get the verification reset?

Just call in as you would for a normal ADSL fault.. 10210
When you get to a consultant, fire away!

Right. I will try that this evening. So I just directly ask to reset the self verification process and hopefully there is a button they can push? I am pretty cynical at this point.

On the phone with them now; they don't know how. Sigh.

speak to someone else, they can do it! Just reset the line verification..

OK well they reset the line verification (7th person), now my modem does not want to sync at all. So htf am I supposed to do the verification?

I don't think I can spend more time on the phone with these people.

I have been hammering it out on the phone a few more times. Everyone is useless.

Right, I don't know what else to do anymore. I have spoken to so many useless people now.
Anyone have a secret contact?

Call Head Office:
You will need to have a fault reference number for them escalate the fault.
This is who you call when nothing gets done, and they sort you out fast..

Contact Person: LERINA
HEAD OFFICE: 012 311 2473

Hope you come right

I eventually spammed a bunch of other email addresses and HelloPeter and they sent me an escalation number (ARS-).
Think I should still call Lerina or first wait?

I am going to give Lerina a call on monday morning if nothing ended up happening.

Some Afrikaans tech guy that manages the area just called me, said he would follow it up.
