Hello. I'm not sure where to post this and I'm using my phone so if it ends up in the wrong place, mods please move the thread :)

My issue: at around 13:50 my ADSL stopped working. We've got the MWeb Uncapped 384 at home. The ADSL light had turned from orange to green (we have the Telkom Billion 800VGT modem) and was stable. I called MWeb and was told that the account is fine.

I changed account details on the modem to the guest@telkomadsl one and I couldn't connect to Telkom's website. The lady I spoke to said it is then a line fault.

I called Telkom and the man I spoke to said that the line was syncing fine. He suggested I try the guest account thing and if it doesn't work then I must log a line fault if the ISP says the account is fine and if the guest thing doesn't work.

I don't understand what the problem is though... How can it be a line fault if the line is fine? The phone works. The light is stable on the modem. *confused*

Could someone please assist me? How do I know for sure that it is a line fault?

It sounds to me like a BRAS/another Telkom infrastructure issue.

I also had an issue like that where my modem would sync against the DSLAM just fine, but I wasn't able to establish any PPPoE connections.

Usually:
If the line can Sync but not establish PPPoE connections it's an issue with the port at the DSLAM which you report as a line issue ( tends to be that the PAD0 packets aren't being transmitted not advertising PPPoE service )

Fun times!

So what did you end up doing? I'm sorry you had to experience the same stuff :/

Do you think I should log a line fault?

Ugh sorry for the slow reply... BlackBerry internet slowness isn't helping right now.

Thank you for helping. I'll phone Telkom now and log the fault.
