In their wisdom Telkom upgraded our exchange from 442 to 325 and in the process upgraded from copper to fiber.

So before the upgrade I could get ADSL but was not ready for it now after the upgrade I am ready but cant get it!!

Anyone out there no if there is a possibility that there will be a type of ADSL that will run on fiber?

ADSL was invented to run over copper lines.

BUT

Even if they upgraded your exchange to fiber, that is the link between the exchange and the rest of telkom, they still use copper between the exchange and your house, thus ADSL should still work. Whoever told you that story didnt know what he/she was speaking about.

My assumption is the 442 to 325 is the 1st 3 digits of the 7 digit tellephone nr?

Thanks for the reply Tinuva.
Yes the 442/325 are the first 3 digits of our phone number. Certain 325 numbers are able to get ADSL but ours cant according to the Telkom ADSL test a number facility on their website.

Prior to the change the website indicated that our 442 number was able to get ADSL.

After applying for ADSL Telkom contacted me and told me that it was not possible due to the fiber issue.

It's strange because the 325 exchange covers Hyde Park, Dunkeld etc. etc. where there are many businesses as well as residential.

Anyway, the bottom line is I cant get ADSL at home!!!!

Phne them again tomorrow after they've updated their databases.
The call centre person just runs the same phone number test that's on the WebSite, and says yes to things that concur with the answer given by that test.

Stoke,
This has been the status ever since the switch to the 325 exchange.
Unless you know something I dont then it will make no difference waiting till tomorrow.
According to their test site it's not available and it's not on the roll out plan for the immediate future.

Mkay - twaz a shot in the dark. Sorry.
My experience :: I waited 2 months for a port, and I spoke to a teckie who I found at the exchange - he had just completed fitting the exchange upgrade and told me that it takes about 3 weeks before it is actually use-able. And he woz correct, my total wait time was 3 months, even though the exchange was upgraded a month before I finally got my port.
Again - all this is not helping you. Sorry.

I have a friend, who also wants to get adsl, but telkom told him his exchange doesnt support it. The irony? His friend living next door, on the same exchange, with same 1st 3 digits in the 7 digit nr, has adsl for more than 3 months now...
