ADSL only works during day??!!

Other things in the evening that causes lines to drop could be a drop in temperature causing the copper to contract and introduce more noise onto the line and causing its SNR to drop below a sustainable level.
Also heard of a few cases where the line dropped the same time every evening only to link the event to the return of the person from work and opening his electric gate. So the motor causes interferance. Perhaps an arching coil.

Buy 2 of those backup power ups things' plug your router and pc in and you should have a constant flow rather than spikes? I had the same prob and our lights in one side of the house always used up faster than the other and night time the lights went on and my adsl speeds got slower.

ADSL not working

Hi DMH

I had a client two months ago with a similar problem. I have dropped you a PM so that I can investigate this matter with Telkom directly.

I have exactly the same problem. It started on the 15 June. I have reported it at least 20 times and had 7 technicians visit. I am now desperate. Please I need help

Yo since we're chatting on Necro threads...

Instead of staying on my stable 2mbps line (previously stable 4mbps) ... I risked trying to upgrade back to 4mbps. Really dumb mistake... I have since taken self-improvement seriously since my brain must be deteriorating at a rapid pace.

So as soon as Telkom touched the configuration, I have been on a highly unstable 2mbps line - unusable - 10 second connections at times. Telkom tested the line - blamed the premises. Tested the premises - replaced the wall socket for no reason. Now doing nothing.

Attenuation down is 40db, Noise margin is 12db.. I can see it drop at times, usually it drops to 5db and then the line loses synchronization. Sometimes no pattern.

So far I have found out that requesting a port reset and then switch can be done by phoning Telkom, so will try this tonight.
Otherwise it must be moisture in the lines.
