From what I can recall:

Somewhere in the next few days, your ADSL modem's ADSL light will turn on, indicating that it can synchronize, and that Telkom has allocated and "connected" your port. They may also call you to advise you that this has been done, but usually, it easier and faster just to check the modem yourself. Once all of that is done, you enter your DSL account details you received from your ISP in your modem. Sometimes, it won't connect even though you have entered all the details correctly. It will give an authentication error. In this case, you have to phone Telkom and tell them that your modem has synchronized and that they can activate the service fully. They bill you pro-rata for the ADSL service for the remainder of the month from the day of activation. And that should be it.

EDIT: Call them on 10219 with your telephone or order number ready once the ADSL light on your modem is on.

If you've done a self-install you'll also need to activate the line via the Telkom website. There's a guest account you can get from the call center.
