Ok,

So I ordered my Telephone Line and ADSL lines tonight. (At Canal Walk Telkom Shop, Cape Town). The guy told me 4 to 6 weeks so lets see......

Cheers

Just set your billion to bridge mode and use the linksys as your wireless gateway..

Called Telkom this morning.

"Your Order is at Port Assign. You can call within 48 hours to get an install date."

I hope it does not take them 48 months to assign a port....

:D :D :D :D

From my experience, the ADSL installation response from Telkom seems to be a lot faster when you place the order with the Telkom Direct shops. I can't even begin to explain the delays and excuses I heard when ordering ADSL via the Calldesk. They are all lank friendly and helpful but that’s where it ends.
Ordered ADSL via the Calldesk = 3 months, no action. Enquired via the Telkom Direct store and they said after 3 months my order has not even been directed to a planner or anything.
Cancelled the order and re-ordered it right there at the Store = ADSL installed after just 3.5 weeks!! I even got feedback calls during those 3.5 weeks!

The above is truly sad - 3.5 weeks is a "good turn around time".

sad.

(Not that I am flaming you, just flaming Telskom).

I agree with you. I opted for the self install option so 3.5 weeks for a dude to go and plug you into the ADSL Switch at the exchange is rather laughable.
But after waiting for over 3 months for the same request, I was rather plesantly surprised.

Update Time

Ok Just Called Telkom

They say my port has been assigned and my order is with the scheduling department.

So I wonder how long from here.....

"scheduling department" - lol.
Its a "first in last out" pile of paperwork, a mile high, and covered in dust.
The last person working in that department was retrenched last week, BUT a new "managerial" position has opened, and a placement is "imminent".

:p

My friend went to bulgaria last wednesday, ordered dsl on friday and got it the next Monday. And he is only paying R60(he is only there for a month). I'ts a 192 line btw

Phoned Telkom now and they told me my scheduled install date is 3rd July 2006.

Should I trust this... :D :D

Did they phone you first to find out if you're available (at home) for the installation? Normally the tekky phones and finds out if the date is ok with you.

If that's the case, your chances are good. Tekky phoned me for my installation, we set a date, and he actually showed up.

No he hasn’t phoned me. They said the date was set late yesterday afternoon so he should phone me today. So I am hoping that happens as I am not going to be too happy!

Telkom said today (after ordering 25 May), no ports in Durbanville, 31 October. um, isnt that a little long?

Did they say what year? 31 oct 2006/7/8/9/10? When hell freezes over?

8 months and waiting....

Ordered a telephone with adsl in November 2005. We are still waiting for the telephone, let alone the ADSL. How is it possible that in the 21st century it can take a company so long to install what is now the basic service of telephony. I positively hate Telkom, and hope they get screwed into the ground when we finally get some competition.

Any ideas how how to speed the process up? I dont want to wait until 31 October for my line.
