ADSL over Fibre - It is possible?

Good day All,

My company has recently moved to a new building which only has Fibre as a WAN connection. We do a lot of testing on DSL devices and require a DSL connection in our test environment. Telkom has however informed us that there is no ADSL availability in our new area. Is there any device that I can use to "convert" one of our Fibre connections to a normal ADSL (RJ11) connection to enable us to test DSL devices in spite of the lack of an ADSL line.

We missing some info here, but short answer is NO.

No, totally different connections. ADSL runs over copper to your local DSLAM and exchange, i.e Telkoms infrastructure. From there it runs onto the ISP's IPC network. There is no way they can provision ADSL over fibre.

The only way I can think of that would give you something similar is the below:

OPTION 1:

Get a ADSL line in an area where it is available, set that router to bridge mode
Ask fibre provider to create you a L2 VPN between your office and the ADSL line
Put a router in your office to dial the PPPoE connection through the VPN

This will give you an ADSL type connection over the fibre, however it will be all ethernet and will not provide you with a physical rj11 interface to plugin to, but will still be routed through telkom ADSL cloud.

OPTION 2 :-)

Buy a mini DSLAM, +- R15K
Connect this DSLAM to your fibre network
Configure the DSLAM to simulate the telkom network (VPI/VCI)
This will give you a RJ11 interface to plug directly into an ADSL router for testing.
