Hi

I have an ISDN2a line at my business which I installed for a Siemens ISDN mini PBX type phone which works great.

Can I install an ADSL internet line for data whilst still retaining the ISDN for voice???

No (at least not in SA). The question has come up a few times before:

Summary: You will need to convert to a standard analog line then get ADSL. Good luck!

Looks like you will need to install a second line. Keep the original for ISDN and the new one analogue for ADSL

Can a second line be installed in a premises if there are only 1 pair of copper coming in??

Uh ... a second line means a second line.
So that makes 2 pairs and 2 x line rental fees.

as far as I know it is theoretically possible since the ISDN uses the limited bandwidth scope that the analogue portion of your line normally uses. The ADSL uses the un-utilised portion of the line.

So these technologies should not conflict, but which goes where, I cannot tell you!

Well as far as I know Telkom usually install a cable which will support a couple of lines to a business premises even if only one is needed initially.

Yes it is technically possible, but Telkom won't install it. As stated earlier, order yourself adsl on a new line. If not needed for anything else, you could use the phone part included in adsl as a dedicated fax line.

And they have the cheek to charge you an installation fee when all along the extra line(s) have been sitting there from the initial installation. :p
