Hi

I have posted on a different thread but I am hoping that someone can help.

When I ping my mail server, it initially times out and after 20 or so packets, it comes live with a periodic packet loss. Telkom insists that the problem is not on their side. My other branches run fine so it cant be the ISP. Could it be a virus

Do you by chance stay in Durban North?

Im having the same problems :(

I get a timeout every few seconds

do you get general packet loss too?

what i usually do is :

if you are a saix client for ex:ping 41.242.128.1 -t. in another dos prompt screen ping google.com -t and also ping a 3rd site like smtp.saix.net

if you get packet drops at EXACTLY the same time - its your line.
traffic on your line should only spike the latencies..not cause total nonresponse.

acceptable is 1-2% packet loss on a 15min ping

cheers

im having the same problem, tried the 3 window ping method thing, and all 3 windows freeze non-response at the same time

edit:
Durban north region as well
