ADSL - Paulshof

Just over a mth ago, the exchange was hit by lightening.

Since then, the MWEB adsl service, is up for 2 mins, down for 2 mins, up for 2 mins, every day.

We call Telkom every day, and they say a part has been ordered.

The last update, was that they were coming to our house last Friday, but, they never came.

The service did improve a bit, since Friday, but, now its probably up, 5 mins, down 2 mins, every day.

A friend in the same street, 20 houses down, has the same problem.

Any one else ?
 
Sport Pro, i live in the paulshof area and i have been fighting with Telkom since 29 November 2010 about this issue.

The latest story goes, is that a section of cable was stolen, and then replaced on Friday 14 January 2011. It was then stolen again 15 January 2011 and that was replaced again Monday 17 January 2011.
The problem is that the cable the buggers stole, looks after 2400 lines in the area.

I had telkom's technician at my place yesterday and basically he told me that all of paulshof gets directed through the Sunninghill's area exhange. I believe there is plans for the Paulshof area to receive a closer exchange in 6 months time. In the words of the technician that visited me yesterday "your ADSL will give you intermittent problems until the new exchange is installed".

I'm guessing you are in the same boat as me.

I got their technical guys coming out again this week sometime, i hope. If they still cant get it right, i am going to cancel and try find another solution.

PS: i wrote another thread (or replied to one, i cant remember) similar to this in December about the Paulshof area having bad internet due to similar issues. You are welcome to dig it up and correlate what i wrote to when your trouble's started. I think they will match up :).

I have a cell-c stick as a back-up, which is ok, but, would like the fixed line to work.

The lightning just ko'ed a few things here, but, internet still really poor.

Hope you get some help, then at least, there is hope.

Right now, my frustration level, is off the charts.
 
Just for info ..

I am not sure if this is used here, but I use a thing, called Mobile Partner, for some of my software.

This is a piece of software, which allows switching between multiple ISP devices, on certain software I use a lot.

So, when I boot up my software, I tell it, which ISP to use first.

Typically, I would have :

1) wireless
2) cell-c
3) vodacom

The software continually checks which is the best ping time, and executes the refresh etc, on that connection.

In the Uk, I have as many as 4 cell suppliers connected to my laptop (I know its excessive, but ..)
 
PS: Mr sport i havnt forgotten about you, i'm still waiting on the damn technician to come around. Any luck on your side ?
 
Service has improved a bit, now stays up 20 min, then downbfor 5 min.

Someone from telkom rang today to see if things had improved - I was sleeping, so my wife said no - and techie said he was getting lots a complaints, and would try something.

That was 3 hrs ago, and it's up now, but wouldn't hold my breath.

Will keep in touch.
 
Just got an SMS from telkom saying line fixed . Er, no.

SMS number was. 021 425 7454 - cape town - anyway, it asks you to reply to SMS, if you don't agree, so we replied.

Line is up for longer now, but discons after 15-20 mins, and takes 5 min to recon
 
Achter road, so no issues there. Probably connected on the sunninghill or rivonia side.

Good luck with telkom technicians. Took me two months to get connected. In the process lost my voice line, got someone elses voice line with adsl, got billed for two months of adsl, lost my voice line again,.... you get the picture.
 
Line working better now .. avg 40 mins up, 3 mins down.

Someone did something .. so, thks for that.
 
Power cut, for all of Paulshof, from 4pm, till past 11pm (went to bed).

Internet has come back ok.

Dunnio what the Power cut was about - cant find any details on the net.
 
I have just moved into St. Pauls (complex) in Wroxham Road (behind Porsche) and I have ordered my voice line which will hopefully be installed in a few weeks.

What is the situation with the ADSL in this area now? Pings on a 1meg line?

Any information will be appreciated.

I don't have ping info at the moment, but have been using my line in Paulshof for just over a year without issues described above
 
I am overseas right now, so cant do speedtest, but, was struggling to get 1mb/s download, bfore
I left. Hope u get something decent.
