Hi Guys

Got a friends who lives in Linden, Johannesburg, wants to get ADSL. Went to Telkom shop today and was told that the Ports for ADSL are fully used in the area and will have to wait for an upgrade. I didn't really follow to what he was saying so could someone please explain this to me? ADSL Ports being Full?

Also anyone from the linden area recently got an ADSL line activated?

it could mean that there are no ADSL ports available on that exchange

or they could be fibbing.

Get him to call 10215 & ask them to check

3 years ago when I signed up - there was 5% availability on that exchange. You'll have to get your mate on a waiting list. Linden exchange feeds an absolutely massive area - and it connects directly to the Rosebank exchange. The next closest exchange is Randburg - most likely 10KM away (by cable). I'm slap bang in the middle of the 2. Then: Either Hell will freeze over, or Telkom will leave the building. I hope for both.
I spoke to an ADSL Telkom techie last week - he said Telkom wasn't spending a dime on upgrading anything - and he didn't think that they would in the future. Honestly I think Telkom sees the writing on the wall.

That techie honestly does not know what he is speaking about.

It seems that most telco's have spoke persons here, but not Telkom.
as it goes in the computer world, everything needs to be upgraded, not double but times 100.

Was hoping not to get an answer like that. Well guess the best thing to do is be put onto that list?

+1

Telkom are busy doing a lot of infrastructure work at this point: Parkview exchange was upgraded over Christmas, to the extent I didn't have any ADSL for two months. :(

I suppose that I should be half-happy: Telkom gave me a refund ...

OTOH#1 there is no guarantee that the improvements will include more ADSL ports at the exchanges ...

OTOH#2 if I am not mistaken Telkom has SLA's that are never enforced by ICASA. Perhaps the Consumer Protection ... :)
