I have just finished a self-install of ADSL line with Telkom, however I am unable to connect because I do not have ADSL POTS Filter (so Telkom says). My modem DSL indicator keeps flickering and never stops. Where can I find the ADSL POTS Filter besides at Telkom shop? There is no Telkom shop in my area, I was hoping to find it somewhere online, anyone knows where?

By the way, is it the reason I don't have the Filter that I cannot connect?

From what I know the POTS Filter only removes the interference from the Adsl line causes on your telephone, It does not effect your router.

Nishalin is right - the filter is only for the phone, not the modem.

I have one telkom one just lying around - PM me if you want it?

ADSL line still not working

I have called Telkom, they asked me to verify the adsl account on their website. I got a message which says: "Your ADSL Service request has already been processed"

This time they did not ask about ADSL POTS Filter!

blackguy ... while you are using the phone, there is a slim chance that the ADSL modem/router may struggle to get a decent "connection" (synch) with the DSLAM (Teklom Exchange).

But, when you're not using the line, it will then be the same as if you did have a filter on the line, and it should work 100%.

The filter simply separates your voice from the data, preventing the 2 from mixing. If you pickup the phone now (without the filter on), you should be able to hear the router/modem "talking" to the DSLAM.

The filter will prevent you from hearing that.

Thank you guys! I now understand the purpose of an ADSL POTS Filter. My problem however is still with connection. The Telkom consultant has files a fault report so I will be expecting a technician next week I guess.

I did experience the noice you are referring to, stoke. I however will need the Spliter so that I can be on the phone and online at the same time whenever needed. I have already found one on BidOrBuy, thanks to Garyvdh.

as long as you don't pay more than R40 for the POTS filter. If it is too expensive, let us know and we will find you another one. Remember, every analog telephone device in your house needs to go through the POTS filter including fax machines, modems, telephone handsets and Alarm systems.

Erm. that doesnt look like a POTS filter? Looks like you bought a windscreen holder for a cellphone?

If you're line is going up or down, I had the same problem. My 4meg line needed to be downgraded to a 2meg due to my distance from the exchange. Perhaps hinting this to the technie may help if they don't find the problem
