Hi,

In the last month or so, perhaps about 7 or 8 times I have lost the ADSL PPPoE/Act Light completely.
Only a hard reset of the modem will fix this problem. It flickers off and on and unless you actually reset it, it continues to go on and off. Odd?
I have had the same connection for a year and 3 months now and I set the user name and password once and it has been fine until now.
I do know someone else that has the same problem.

I am with MWeb, if that helps at all.

Are you still having this problem?

What modem/router/OS/SP/LAN, etc are you using?

Zyxel Router

I am using a Zyxel 650R-31 ADSL Router.
Win XP.
Server with 2 Network Cards.
One is the gateway and the other is the LAN.
16 port SMC Switch.
I am going to change the server to Linux soon and perhaps even some of the workstations.

The problem only started about 8 weeks ago.
It has happened about 10 times over a period of 6 or 7 weeks.

Only a hard reset will make it work again.

No problems lately. Seems OK for the moment.

A router lloosing sync like that indicates buggy firmware which needs a hard reset.

Just check if there is any firmware updates for that router.

I agree. I had a similar problem with a Marconi 4 port in router mode. DSL LNK light flashing. I solved my issue with a firmware update.

No problems since then [he says as he grabs a piece of wood]

Router Firmware.

Hello,

I did update the firmware to the latest version some time back.

I do find it odd that a Router can work flawlessly for over and year and then only at random intervals have this phenomena.
Once a hard reset didn't work either. I had to wait 3 minutes before I put it on again.

Another person I know has the exact same router and had similar problems and he still had the older firmware.
So I am inclined to think it is not firmware, but perhaps even an issue on Telkom’s side as now, from the time I posted this thread, it has been working flawlessly.
