(Sorry for the long post)

Okay, so now I am confused and very frustrated at this whole stupid "choosing an ISP" thing.
What is the best option or cheapest option if you are starting from scratch? (No lines or anything). None of the ISP websites have the full costs listed. With Telkom, do I pay extra for ADSL line rental? Why on earth do I need a voice line? am I seriously going to be paying R166.5 per month for something I don't want/use?
About a year ago I just gave up because I just got frustrated and irritated. Now I feel the same but I want to push through and get everything done now. Is there a real difference between 2 and 4Mbps? I see that the 2Mbps line is good for streaming. Is it worth it to pay extra for the 4Mbps line? Mweb seems cheaper than Telkom or am I reading wrong?

Thanks in advance

You need a line from Telkom, whether you choose them as you ISP or not.
The ADSL line gets piggybacked on the voice line, even though you never use it.
You pay extra for the ADSL line. How much depends on what bundle or speed you choose.
The difference between a 2Mbps and 4Mbps line, is 2Mbps. 4-2=2.
2Mbps is the minimum requirement for streaming, although a 4 or 10Mbps line would be better.

4Mbps would be better for streaming as you will be able to get higher quality streams. Yes you need to pay Telkom for a line you might never use (we all do and we hate it). If you are going to be sharing the line with family or mates where you stay i say go for 4Mbps so you have more bandwidth for those times when you are all busy online

Thanks So much for the answers. I really appreciate it. I think I am going to go for the Mweb 4Mbps uncapped. Will just have to first get the telephone line installed (I hope that doesn't take too long)

Get both from Telkom. The line, and adsl line. Once the adsl line Is installed. Let M-WeB do their magic to release your line from Telkom. I heard it's faster this way..

If your line can support 10Mbps, the mweb capped 10MB is cheaper than 4MB uncapped.

Just get the Telkom Simple package. Free installation of your ADSL line and free Wifi modem/router as well. Normally they also give a free 3G USB modem (Telkom mobile) with some free 3G data for 12 months or so. Really good deal. I dont think its on contract (mine isnt- but then again I got mine a year ago. Not sure if things has changed.

Oh, and even though you might sneer at the Telkom landline, I have been pleasantly surprised. The charges for Landline to Landline and even Landline to mobile is much cheaper than using your cellphone to do the calls.

Do it like this, much faster then having to go through mweb to get to telkom

Telkom SIMPLE promotion ended. I was looking at signing up for this deal, but unfortunately it has come to an end :(

Feel free to PM me your contact number and I'll arrange for a Sales rep to be assigned to your case, so you won't have to call in when the telephone and DSL line activates on Telkom's end.

Did Telkom confirm this? I read on another thread that it was just sort of hidden on their website. A google search brought up the Telkom Simple 4mb offer on their website last week still when i did it.

Still waiting on confirmation from TelkomZA representative.. Last week the promotion wasn't hidden on their website, but with new land line rental prices coming into effect, they probably changing the price on the product...

The expiry date mentioned on the pages was for 2013/4 IIRC
