Hi all..well I've been having problems with slow speeds(4mb line) and high latency before last weekend!?

The latency would be oky'ish(60-80) use to 45-60ms ping, but then it jumps to 200-800 and drops again..

i have done few things to test and check if it would resolve my prob but seems not

thing i have noticed is my packet loss seems fine...Jitter not! one minute it's 2ms...then 70ms Jitter?

Im not to clued up with all this so need some advice or help?!Tel line seems crisp and clear .. attached are Tracert to Mweb.co.za and Google.co.za

Hi djbrendan,

That is the correct one.

The issue is with your Attenuation Ratio it's far to high.
Maybe get Telkom to reset your ADSL port.

Also have you moved your ADSL router around any electrical things around it?

Your line status should like this below with the following numbers.
SNR:

6dB or below is very bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
11dB-20dB is good with little or no sync problems
20dB-28dB is excellent
29dB or above is outstanding

Attenuation:

20dB and below is outstanding
20dB-30dB is excellent
30dB-40dB is very good
40dB-50dB is good
50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

The router he has doesn't report the attenuation like you'd think. Mine does the same. As long as the upstream is half of the downstream it's fine.

I'd suggest that he bypasses the plug.

Meaning, his phone line goes from the phone, to the plug of the router at the socket, from the plug to the router (surge protection)

i had the same instability issues and when I just plugged in the phone line direct to my router it stabilized

If that doesn't work though, your stats look fine, I'd say it may be congestion at the exchange, but it looks like your exchange is 10mbps enabled and those usually get enabled only if the backhaul upgrade was done

Could this prob be cause it's the end of the world ;)

It says 10mb enabled but apparently I can't :/ 4mb is the max

We'll I don't know if this has any big impact on the ADSL..but noticed when i speak over the tel line to any number i get this soft crackling noise ??

I think there could be some problem with your ADSL wire pin which you attach to your computer or the socket might be little lose which cause your connection work slow. Otherwise you need to contact your ADSL provider who could better diagnose your connection problem.
