ADSL problem with international web servers

Web Africa works, MWEB does not!

We are having the same problem since yesterday (servers are located in the US), although if we use our Web Africa login name instead of our MWEB login name, everything works 100%. Webmail works on both.

Done, let's hope it shifts somebody from his comfy chair
My blood pressure rises by the minute, it's been two working days now, LOST

My ISP sent me the reply he received form Telkom (has lodged a complaint with ICASA):

Reply:

Resolution Description (Email to Customer) These customers are
>>> connecting with "Shaped" ADSL accounts, ie. *SAIX does port shaping
>>> on non standard international ports, namely POP3 &
>>> SMTP* (because this is usually provided locally by the ISP) as well
>>> as Peer2Peer, gaming etc... What this means, is that they get low
>>> priority or limited bandwidth on the international link compared to
>>> mainline ports like port 80 for HTTP.

So basically Telkom are saying email isn’t a priority - last I checked it was the main reason my business has ADSL in the first place. Unbelievable – or maybe not.

I would like to know what the hell is going on? My speed has started to suck the last hour or so, speed tests give me something like 100Kbps on a 512k line? WTF?

In short it means Telkom is not prepared to offer sufficient bandwidth for users to utilize email outside South-Africa.

Adsl

Should this not be a case for the competition commission? Is Telkom not perhaps doing this deliberately to force people to use local hosting or their ISP?
I am already moving my biggest client to a local hosting company due to this problem.

Something is happening

Wait..... WOW, something is happening
At 19h52 on 20 Jul 2006 I could connect to my mail server for the first time in two days. :p :p
Let's see if this will last till tomorrow

Let's see if Telkom has the guts to apologise for the inconvenience and loss of income publicly on this post?

Telkom is helping us lose business... the only thing I can use is the article on ITWeb to show my clients its not my fault.

Hey btw... the article on ITWeb includes one of my posts ... yeay! :D

At least something to shout about... LOL

Telkom....apologise...? Bwaaaaaaaaaa hahahahahaha

Okay its confirmed... after two days being offline it seems like Telkom is back online again.

Lets hope it lasts!

Telkom: The Irritation Buzz word

I'm not surprised this is happening with Telkom. I have had so much grief over the past few months with Telkom that seeing another problem from Telkom actually makes me wanna scream. Okay, I'm only a small client, who only has to offer services to my company, but the ABUSE Telkom has put me and a lot of other IT managers out there through is unbelievable...Worse still if you are a service provider. It's time iBurst and other service providers that are serious about DELIVERING SERVICES THAT PEOPLE PAY FOR cease the moment and get the business for themselves, because we are g****l with Telkom

Kaspaas - yea I think this forums helped alot - since it made marks on ITWeb! :D

...I wonder when Virgin's gonna reply to my open letter... what I need now it Virgin Telecom or something... hehe
