I have three seperate devices:
1) A dlink dsl 2500u router
2) A a Intellinet wireless access point
3) A 8 port gigabit switch.
These all work fine for the hardwire connection and I am able to make a dialup connection from a laptop to connect to the internet.
I run a server progom for my music on the pc.
I am able to connect to this from my phone and it works.
But no internet access on the phone or my kindle.
The adsl router is in half bridge mode.
Sorry about the long explanation.
Thanks
Johnathan

Your explanation was relatively short and detailed like we need to assist you ;)

The first thing that you should check is that your AP (Intellinet wireless access point in your case) is configured in a bridge mode.
If it is in bridge mode, then laptop would get IP addresses in the same range when using both the LAN (cable) and WiFi (wireless) connections, and you should have Internet access without creating a dialup connection from it.

Once you have your laptop working with the WiFi connection, then the phone & Kindle should work too - unless they have some kind of DHCP server incompatibility issues.

It might also be that your phone or Kindle doesn't support the specific WiFi security policy set on the AP. I would strongly suggest that you use WPA2 with a strong (long password) that cannot be brute force/dictionary attacked with ease. For a start, you might want to disable the WiFi security policy until you have your Internet working.

Router troubles

Thanks For the assist Pada

The access point is set for: Wan type access - Set to DHCP Client.
The other settings are static and PPPoE...If I choose PPPoe then I have to fill in login in details.
If i do theis with the mweb account will i still be able to do a dialin on the other account.
I have my details in the router allready.
Many thanks

Johnathan

Dlink routers are by default in half-bridge mode. By inserting your details in to your router will allow your kindle and phone access to the internet and you will still be able to dial an account from your pc

Flippy_r1st

To get the half bridge mode to work with the the dlink I hab to enable Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports.
This still does not help with the wireless connection to the internet.
Thanks
Johnathan

I've looked through the manual of a Intellinet AP and I really dislike it. I know my networking stuff pretty well, but I've never worked with this AP unfortunately, so I'm just giving you general kind of setups.

It doesn't seem like the AP has a bridge mode. You'll have to set it as a DHCP client, so that it's br0 interface gets an IP address from the D-Link ADSL modem.

Now you have 2 options, with the first one being way easier:
  1. Disable DHCP, hoping that this will bridge the WiFi with your D-Link/Gigabit switch's LAN.
If it works, your laptop's WiFi connection will get an IP address from your D-Link router.
  2. Enable DHCP server, with it's LAN IP address being in a different range than that of the D-Link. eg. 192.168.1.x for the D-Link and 192.168.0.x for the AP.
    An example setup would be:
    • D-Link router:
LAN IP address 192.168.1.50, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, DHCP server enabled that would hand out IP addresses ranging from 192.168.1.100 - .254
    • Intellinet AP:
      br0/WAN interface: IP address = 192.168.1.51, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway = 192.168.1.50 / DHCP client
LAN interface: DHCP server enabled, with IP address = 192.168.0.1, subnet mask = 255.255.255.0, default gateway = 0.0.0.0 (I'm not completely sure what this one should be), DNS server = 192.168.1.50 (D-Link's IP address), DHCP range = 192.168.0.100 - .254
    • Now you'll have to configure a static route on the D-Link modem:
      IP address = 192.168.0.0, subnet mask = 255.255.255.0, gateway = 192.168.1.51 (the Intellinet AP's br0 IP address)

Ok Pada here goes
I am not able to turn off the DHCP on the intellinet access point
The rest i will have to try later as this setup is used by a few people.
Thanks again
Johnathan

Pada
Just a thought my cousin has given me a new telkom router and access point all in one it is a duoplus 300wr.
I have looked at the setup but not sure if it can be put into half bridge mode. (Support says no....but they had to ask someone else :-) )
I could send you the manaual if it would help.
Thanks again for al the trouble.
Johnathan

AFAIK the DuoPlus 300WR doesn't have half-bridge support and the manuals are way worse than the Intellinet ones. To be honest - the user manual on Telkom's website doesn't even reveal any of the available settings.

If you can't disable the DHCP server on the Intellinet AP, then it seems like you'll have to go with my option #2 that requires you to add a static route on the D-Link modem.

Thanks Pada
Will give it a try on the weekend.
Thanks again for the troubles

Hi Pada
I gave all the options that you said a go.....no luck.
What would your seggestions be for a all in one axcess point and router that does half bridge etc.

Many thanks

Johnathan
