Hey guys I have a bit of a dilemma. After the heavy rain in Jozi on Friday I found on Saturday morning my router was occasionally disconnecting and then reconnecting after a minute or two. This has happened infrequently over the weekend meaning I haven't been able to game or do anything that needed a steady connection. It seems now to be connected but my international speeds have gone pear shaped. If I speed tested to London before the problems I used to get 3.5MB+ but now it fluctuates between 0.5-1.5MB and when I game I can play on an international server for a little while but I get booted pretty quickly.
I thought I would pick up my router at the office and try that but I've found that the office has the same problem on the same exchange with a different ISP. I contacted Telkom on Saturday and they reset the ports without fixing the problem so I called again today to report the fault. Anybody have any advice on how to show them the problem or get them to fix it if they turn up?

PS: I'm connected to the Kensington exchange in Jozi near Eastgate mall, if anyone else in the area is having trouble I'ld love to know.

Sounds like an exposed connection, that has managed to get wet.

You should probably collect some statistics from your DSL modem, e.g. SNR, attenuation, cell errors, so you can present those to the technician that comes out. Particularly cell error counts seem to get a good reaction (in my experience).

How would the best way to do that be? And thank you for the help!

good luck with that, you will need to do telkoms job for them and find the problem first, then they might fix it.

It seems to be a common issue, By me when it used to rain the modem would no longer sync at 4mbps but at < 1mbps , with the voice line giving static and as the days went by the line synced better and better, I presume the cable dried. However since last week wednesday there was a huge storm, the same happened with the line and now it doesnt want to come by it self right. Have reported to telkom yet no response.
