My ADSL In Morningside has been unable to connect since Fri 3/12/2010 late afternoon. I reported to Telkom 1st thing Mon. morning, and thusfar abolutely zip has happened. Each successive call centre person is more disinterested that the previous one - all they say is that "they will escalate it". The last guy I spoke to an hour or so ago said it was "a problem at the exchange, affecting a few hundred users - and that a technician needs to take ownership of the problem" (but clearly hasn't yet, 5 days later!)

They seem not to care whether it gets fixed or not, couldn't give a damn. That's the impression I get. I have always had excellent service from telkom ADSL in the past (have very seldom needed it, actually) - but not now - no siree. Complete disinterest and couldn't care less. Anyone else affected? Any suggestions? Is it time to ditch Telkom & go the cellular route?

Yeah.....having the same problem in riverclub. Been calling them everyday....and the call centers are useless!
I reported a fault on 30 november they said there was a problem with the line, then they said they fixed it....next they said cable theft...and they had to to put in a new cable....then they said the exchange....and it goes on and on.

So from 30 Nov...my phone line is dead and I have no internet.
thank god I have a cell c data sim on my phone so I create a wifi hotspot and use the net....only downside now everyone at home is trying to connect to my phone.

edit: you are right about their attitude....most just dont care and everytime I call they say they are waiting for the technician to sort it out....
Some so called world class infrastructure....

I've had a similar problem since the 1st of November...

I'm on the Houghton exchange.

It started that my DSL connection would drop every few minutes, but has now gotten to the point that since the 22nd of November I have had no ADSL whatsoever. I phone at least twice a day and every time get told it will be escalated. So here I sit 3 weeks later still with no Internet at home and like you said, Telkom just don't give a damn!

I wonder if anyone on the forum might have the contact details of some helpful soul at Telkom that would maybe be willing to help?

I'm living in sandton. Mine died around the same time yours did, I logged about 15 calls in 3 days. Then suddenly, boom, it just went up about two days ago in the afternoon. They had claimed several reasons, depending which person at the call center i was talking to. Firstly there was maintanance on the exchange, next there was a port issue, next the cable needed to be replaced, and then out of no where it started working again. They still don't know why or what was wrong...

Oh well, good luck!

Any update guys?
Fed up with telkom...even the supervisors are useless

Finally spoke to a consultant who was quite clued up today, I was told that Telkom are experiencing problems on a few exchanges because of switches. Don't know how reliable my information is, but he said that technicians have been working on this. Will believe it when I have a working DSL connection again
