Hi guys

I'm looking into getting a ADSL line when i move into my new place. So doing some research on myBB.
But all i read is how bad this provider is and how bad that service is.

Is it really this bad? I hardly read any positive reviews.

I mostley use 3G and almost never have any issues that i have to phone or escalate problems. Isn't ADSL supposed to be better?

Please tell me i'm wrong.

OK, you're wrong mainly because people tend only to comment on negative experiences (unless you're a ISP fanboy).

I moved to ADSL from ISDN end 2006 and doubt if I've had a total of 24hrs downtime in 6 years across a range of ISPs.

Of course your location has a bearing on your ADSL experience - prevalence of cable theft, distance from exchange etc.

Very correct there. I always seem to suffer from lack of ports and long install times. Location will determine how much downtime you have. My current line is super stable, I have lived places where it used to go down every time a cloud appeared. Get ADSL, if you like it after 3 months keep it, if you prefer 3G after 3 months cancel it.

Lol,
I think you see alot of "bad" comments because people only complain when the internet is bad/slow/not connecting.
But you don't see people making threads because their internet is super awesome today... hehehe :D

Guess i'll give it a try and see for myself, is there a way to see how far i am from my exchange? Or should i just contact telkom.

Hi There Dean,
I have been using ADSL for over 10 years and the experience has generally been excellent. Down time has been very minimal and connection issues very few.
I would recommend giving it a try and see what the experience has been.
I am not aware of any way in which you can see how far away from the exchange you are and remember while it may be physically close there is no guarantee that the cable goes the shortest route.

Regards

Tim

Hi Deanoblado

If you'd like, I can arrange for a sales consultant to contact you and assist with ADSL sign up. Just drop me a PM with your contact details.
