Hi,

My first post here,

I've read through the threads but cant find one specific to my question.

So here goes,

I've had a 4meg line for about 2 years now but cant get the download speeds above 2meg and I don't understand why,
this week I must have been on the phone for about 4 hours if you add the calls together, both to Telkom and my ISP.

What I don't understand is, I'm about 2 Km from my exchange and my router syncs at 4096/512 and in speed tests my upload speed is usually always 52KB/s but my download sits at about 1.5/1.8 Mb/s.

From what I understand and read on these forums I meet the requirements to achieve at least 3 meg speeds.

Telkom insists I need to be within 1Km to get those speeds but that doesn't sound right,
I've tried arguing with them but I just don't know enough to show them something's not right.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Thanks for the help,
yeah tried three accounts and the Telkom guest one same result.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream

Line stats are good. Might be congestion at your exchange. Where are you located?

Do a tracert to a few sites like telkom.co.za and cnn.com. If you don't know how to do this: If you use Windows, open command prompt then type:

Code:
tracert telkom.co.za

Replace the "telkom.co.za" with what ever site you want to trace to.

Post those results here.

I'm in Mpumalanga, Hazyview.

My lines ping is usually around 26ms locally but whatever Telkom did today made it worse download is .5 meg now.

Hmm, nothing what you've posted here indicates there is an apparent issue with the line at least not one that can be determined from your end.

You say you tested with different ISP accounts? Which ISPs were they? Maybe you can post some speed tests also with the different accounts.

Have you also asked Telkom to do a port reset yet? If not, try that. If you don't come right get a hold of somebody working with the Telkom Social Media team (either Facebook or Twitter), they are a lot easier to work with than call center staff.

yeah I asked them to reset it today but that made it worse some how haha

My ISP is integrated technology and I used a demo account from Mweb a week ago but has since expired, and today I borrowed my uncles web Africa one same results from all of them.

Here's my one,

Ye, that's not right.

Give the Telkom Social Media guys a try. Send them a private message on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TelkomZA?fref=ts

Thanks again for the help, you helped me more than all those hours with Telkom.

Can Telkom some how slow me down on purpose?

Just don't get it..

It could be an oversubscribed exchange. Also make sure there isn't fault with your hardware, in this case it's probably unlikely, but try a different router and see if you get the same results.

Yeah tried 3 routers over the last year no change,

I'll do what you said and try them on Facebook.

I will post back if its sorted.

they're impossible to deal with lol nearly lost my voice..
