Hi guys [8D]

1) 3 GIG CAPPING

From when does the CAP apply? From the 1st of every month until the last day of the month, or does it apply differently to each user, depending on when he joined? ie: if I joined the 17th with I get new traffic the next month on the 18th?

Telscum have different answers each time I speak to a new consultant.

2) PROXY ...DOES IT REALLY WORK?

Does it really work if you use a local proxy (setting it in your browser, to work with international traffic and bypassing local) - or is it just to put the imagination at work?

Also if it does work, will someone know it and suspend your line?

I mean, one sometimes needs to use it when chatting (for privacy) also.

Any comments please? [:D]

1) When you sign up for your ADSL, your cap starts running, so if for example your first connection was on the 17th as you said, it would then progress until the 31st of that month, at which point it is reset and then applies from the 1st of the month to the end from then onwards.

2) Proxy's do work, I have to occasionally use them to gain access to services that I just cannot get to when capped (MSN Messenger, etc.) as well as to browse international websites, etc. and depending on the quality of the proxy you're using, you could be looking at anywhere between 5 and 50KB/s, even when capped (neat). There is no problem with using proxy's and it's far from illegal (I don't know how Telkom/SAIX feels about it, but it's NOT illegal to run nor use a proxy), in fact, many ISP's (maybe not as many here locally, but MANY internationally) offer proxy services to their customers to improve their end-user experience, as generally a proxy can prefetch what they're looking for and then the customer recieves it at near-local speeds, making it appear far faster than it normally would, some more powerful/advanced proxy servers may even cache data for future use (to reduce load on the network, etc.). SAIX utilizes transparent caching proxies, but they ONLY cache, they provide little in the way of getting good international performance.

Thanks for your quick answer... I appreciate it!

You said just what I wanted to hear! [:D]

Hi again...

Does anyone perhaps know WHERE we can get localproxy servers?

Thanks! [^]
