I have just spent about 30 minutes on the phone to Telkom trying to explain to them that for two weeks now I have not been able to view my hotmail email from my adsl connection. When connecting to my VPN at the office from the same machine (which has a leased line through IS), I can connect to hotmail fine, which tells me that there is a problem with Telkom Internets HTTP proxy. Finally I spoke to someone at SAIX who told me I should try changing my http proxy to dsl-cache.saix.net:8080. I will try this later but was wondering if anyone else has been having similar problems and if so, how they resolved it.

I'm accessing my hotmail account fine from my Telkom ADSL. I'm not using any http proxy except the transparent cache servers we are forced to use.

Aldur, how do you connect? Via pppoe on desktop or does the router negotiate for you?

Could be Telkom problem

About a month back I had a similar problem. Could not send any emails larger than a few kB, and could not connect properly using web email interface. Everything else appeared to be fine.

MWeb suggested it could be a Telkom port priority problem, as only traffic on this specific port was affected.

A day or two later the Telkom exchange went down for a few hours, and when it came back everything was back to normal.
