Hi,

So I have an interesting problem that no-one at Telkom can resolve. I stay in Bothasig, less than 800m from the main DSLAM in that area, my connection is very good in theory but horrendous in reality. The problem appears to be season related (I kid you not)

In the winter months I have the absolute best connection possible, full line speed on my 10Mbps, low pings no packet loss. However come spring and summer I get issues all the time. Packet loss, sporadic disconnects, sometimes 5 or 6 times in a 10 minute window with patches of an hour or so of good connection, when connected pings are superb.

I have checked all points on the property I live in to see if there is any issues with no result. This disconnect occurs whether hot or windy, yet in winter come rain or wind no issues. My only conclusion is that the cables on the poles are perhaps changing shape in the heat causing strain on the various connection points. Then again maybe not, I honestly don't know.

Anyone ever experiencing anything like this?

I would not know I don't have a phone, I threw it away as the wife thought it was an open invitation to call her mother for hours at a time every night.

I have the exact same problem in Panorama. Have basically been told that it could be a problem anywhere along the 3.6km line to the exchange and it would be too difficult to fault find...

It's not difficult, just time consuming as the tech has to test backwards(or forwards) each point in the line where there is a joint/jumper etc. and if it's a cable fault you gonna have to wait until they come out and replace the cable.
