I have also decided, like johndoe1983, to get ADSL. But will require a line first, so heaven knows how long that's going to take, never mind the ADSL bit.

Anyway, this is what I am going do, that is within my budget:

- 4Mbps Line
- 30Gb Local Only, probably from WebAfrica
- 626 Plan (6Gb), probably from Axxess (I want unshaped international access)

I have only ever used ISDN, and 3G previously, and the above-mentioned seems to suite my needs the best. Any comments or alternatives would also be appreciated. The uncapped options currently available are just a bit out of my budget at present.

For your 30GB local only rather get Telkom's Do3 (4Mbps line incl. 5GB [from 1 Aug] international + 30 GB local only).

less R413pm that you have to paid for the 4Mbps line anyway means you are effectively only paying R141 for the bandwidth portion.
 
It took me five months to convert from ISDN to ADSL back in 2005. There were all kinds of mess-ups. All I can say is... keep all the reference numbers and get on the phone with them every day to make sure they know what is going on.

What happened was... as soon as I ordered the ADSL a guy came around to uninstall the ISDN, but because the ADSL was not ready yet, I asked them to hook up the ISDN again, but they didn't do it right and it was not working. From then on there was massive confusion over whether they were repairing ISDN or installing ADSL. Eventually I just told them to rip out the ISDN and I had no phone line for five months until the ADSL came in.
 
I had an existing line @ my dad's house which I converted from prepaid to postpaid (requirement for ADSL) and got the self-install option... under 24 hours.
 
I have an existing ISDN line, but need to keep it, there is a business fax on an MSN which I can't change at this stage. According to the lady that phoned me after I applied online, I need to add another line.

So nothing is actually going to happen to the ISDN at this point, some lucky sod will just eventually end up with two telephone lines, if they ever buy my place. :D

cool, then he can get two 4mb lines and join them... rekon you could run 1 uncapped account on both?
 
Ok, applied for a tel. line 2 weeks ago, checked with them today, and friendly lady at 10219 says theres one or two more steps to go, including something about the exchange and cabling, then they will contact me for an installation appointment. She said that she will escalate the order, fwiw.

Also had her check free ADSL ports on the exchange I am going to use, and she said that there were. Also claimed that the exchange was 4Mbps-capable, which I had already thought it was. Can they really check this from the call centre?.
