So, i have never had ADSL at home, but due to the fact that my daughter is going to Grade 8 next year and needs a tablet for school work i decided to let go of my dongle for internet access and get uncapped ADSL, so she can have wifi etc etc. We have just had a MSAN ???? installed about 400m from my house.

So looking at these deals from Axxess, Afrihost and Telkom i have the following questions

1. What significance does the MSAN ?? have on my line quality / speed etc.
2. These deals include the ADSL ? Correct ? Do i still need to pay for line rental for normal calls ???? is it better to have the line through the ISP or to keep it with Telkom.
3. Which is the best deal for ADSL uncapped at the moment ? Will probably try and watch a few movies / youtube etc. And probably a bit of GTA V online, so nothing serious.

Thanks

Ill just refer to it as an MSAN, however, I think you might be meaning a DSLAM??

1) The closer the MSAN, the faster and more stable your line will be. However, if you are just looking for 2Mbps, you will not need to be as close to an MSAN as someone who wants a 10Mbps connection.

2) If you buy a bundle, you will pay the ISP for the ADSL Rental and the Data. However, you will still need to pay telkom for the line rental (~150p/m). In my opinion, it is better to have the ADSL Line through the ISP as it is cheaper and you rarely need to deal with telkom.

3) I suggest Afrihost for what you need, as they do not shape (slow down) gaming/web browsing/youtube. Some other ISP's may throttle you if you use too much data and slow down everything.

There are many good ISP's out there, I just recommend Afrihost as they are what I use and I really think they are a genuine and good company. Not too mention, they are quite cheap too!

ALWAYS leave your line with Telkom. Just makes things so much easier and prevents headaches down the road.

For your case I'd recommend just taking a Telkom bundled offer. Will just make things easier for you.

TI uncapped bundle would be best.

Zertop is talking bs about afrihost though.
They most definitely shape and throttle.

That bundle includes the 3G dongle and some data that you or your kid can use when away from home. Do the other bundles offer free installation?

Okay, from reading the above, i'm inclined to agree that Telkom is your best bet!

Disagree.

You generally don't save that much but when you want to move or cancel your ISP there's been a few horror stories here about ISPs not moving or Telkom having issues.

Point taken. I have had terrible experiences with Telkom in the past, so the fact that I can now recreate my port and set my sync from my clientzone, is a real bonus to me. However, for first time ADSL users, these will not be necessary.

In your case I'd go with Telkom's 2Mb bundle or Afrihost's 2Mb bundle.

Moving your line away from Telkom isn't as big of a deal as it used to be IMO; and Afrihost is always great to deal with.

Hi guys / girls

if i have my ADSL line installed and dont go the Tlkkom route for data, which uncapped 2mbps package is currently worth considering. taking shaping / throttling (Sp) into account

With 2meg line you really are doing yourself a bit of a disservice by not taking a bundle of some sorts. The savings as a percentage are significant.

Bump...

I still haven't installed my ADSL...... :(

what would be the best 2meg uncapped offering is the best at the moment ???

telkom have got this
