Ive asked around about this issue and still dont have a result, can someone plz tell me the beneficiaries on either one, speed, reliability, etc.
Thanx!

Hi

Router
- Easy integration into network
- Easily accessible by multiple computers running different operating systems seeing as the communication is IP based over the network

ADSL USB modem
- connects to USB port rather than IP
- runs USB communication protocol between USB modem and pc
- More difficult to share internet effectively across network
- Due to USB interface there are some restrictions on what network implementations you can use
- Not entirely portable across different operating system platforms

Use the Ethernet ADSL router. Much better option because it is scalable...

Cheers

### What we need in South Africa is cheap 24/7, always on Internet for under R300 a month. ###

Make sure the ADSL router HAS a ADSL MODEM builtin else you need an external modem.
Some routers ahve no modems so lookout!!

What you guys seem to misunderstand is that some people don't have NIC's. How can someone buy a ADSL router if thats the case. They'll have to fork out the extra for a NIC. Sometimes, if the connection is for just one PC, the USB modem is more than adequate.

gm, a NIC really isn't expensive- if someone intends to spend R600..R1000+ on a router, I am sure they will fork out R65..R150 on a NIC.

Another benefit of using an external router is that most of the good ones also have a firewall builtin.
