Up until now I have been using a USB macaroni modem Telkom supplied. Now I need to use a program that does some pretty sophisticated network stuff and it slows the ADSL connection down to a crawl. So I have purchased a 4 port D-Link router modem. And of course I can't get it to connect to Telkom.

Modem router etc is fine, but it seems to be unable to find the Telkom server. I am a complete novice at networks, is it possible that the ADSL signal is only for a USB modem? That is do I need to get Telkom to change the line?

Or is it a configuartion problem. The ADSL light on the new modem lights up and stays lit. I have not bothered phoning Telkom as there help is generally to reinstall and reboot, and then its we don't know.

I have it working, with no help from TElscum who tried to convince me to return the router and buy a macoroni from them. Surely as a monolopy it is anti-competitive for them to say we don't support that modem!!!

Most DLINK works except one or two models that needed a firmware patch.

But ICASA must approve any modem that is used on our telephone system and if it does not work and it is not approved then you have no leg to stand on with Telkom.
