I'm looking for a good ADSL only modem - something slightly above consumer grade preferably.

Since it will be used purely to connect the Mikrotik 2011UiAS-2HnD to the internet (Mikrotik does all the routing, etc), it doesn't need WiFi - just needs to be a solid ADSL Modem.

I'm currently using a TP-Link (in Bridge mode, WiFi disabled) - the problem is that I think that I think it overheats every once in a while and slows down - I then spend ages looking for other problems until I eventually remember to reboot it - which is a PITA).

Any recommendations welcome

PS: Mod, please feel free to move thread if posted in the wrong section.

I doubt there's too much choice these days in dedicated modems. This is about all I came across when looking to update / upgrade, recently : http://www.dbg.co.za/index.php?cPath=55_57_158 - the one for R279 & VAT & delivery fee (unless you're in JHB or CPT), and sure it's not above consumer grade. Other one is out of stock.

What I can suggest & recommend, is that I bought a D-Link 2740U and am extremely happy with it ; there's a button on the back to disable wi-fi (press it in for about 3 secs. to enable or disable), and it only cost me R499 from a retailer here in PE - Kloppers ; they're in a few cities in RSA, but not many.

Online retailers are charging more for them, for some reason ?
They were R644 when I last looked on Wootware, but now R610 ..

EDIT : this may be suitable, but again, it's basic :

Haven't experienced any connection dropouts since purchasing the 2740U, that could be put down to the modem/router's fault. Runs fairly warm, but I wouldn't say it overheats. Also using it in bridge-mode equivalent & I continually (daily) replace ADSL ISP Usernames/Passwords in the modem - as I have Vox Bolt-on I don't want to use during the day - then have a list I dial-up into on the PC, so the interface is fine.

Takes a bit getting used to, and the bridge setting is known by another name, so if you get one & need to know where to find it, I made notes I can refer to & can post them for you.

What about a Huawei HG532F, R550 from Telkom and should it get hit by lighting it will be swapped out.

Runs cool too.

The TP-Link TD-8817 seems to be the only single port ADSL router available now the D-Link 2500U is EOL.

I've had one fronting my IPCop firewall in bridge mode for about 2 months 24/7 with no problems. Pretty easy to setup but stats are limited compared with a DSL-2500U:

Best to buy from Takealot atm - R299, free delivery http://www.takealot.com/tp-link-adsl2-ethernet-usb-modem-router/PLID38533226

BTW I've supplied a few in the past year to clients out in the sticks with no failures yet.
