I'm tired of the constant hassles my current ADSL router is giving me. (Billion 7202GA)

So, I'm in the market for a new router. Ideally, one that supports ADSL2+ and below, has Wireless and is easily configured with regards to LAN setup, opening firewall ports, etc.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Netgear DG834G/DG834GT. No hassles since I got mine maybe 4 years ago. Running it now just as a modem in conjunction with a Linksys WRT54GL router.

If you going to want to split bandwidth with local and international account then look at that WRT54GL and see the thread in the ADSL section. There's a nice ASUS router as well with more features including a USB port and automated downloads, just can't remember the model number now. But I think it also lacks a modem, it's just a router.

Saw WRT54GL's for R799 at Dion Wired the other day.

I will always recommened a separate router and modem.

1) Lightning only kills the modem.
2) If you switch to Neotel / iBurst / WiMax / whoever, you only have to swap out the modem (provided you can get an ethernet modem (We're looking at you Neotel)

I'd suggest hunting for something that support a gigabit LAN. This 100 LAN business is annoying me atm.

That's close to dealer price. Quite good deal. The ASUS model I had in mind was also around that price. And, yes, after switching over to the DG834G & WRT54GL setup I also agree using separates is the way to go these days especially with "the multitude of broadband options at our disposal." :D Wish I could just find a small ADSL modem and give this DG834G to someone else. It's a waste of the wireless stuff and firewall on it.

netgear or dlink :)

also tossing away my billion 7300GA for another (endless hassles, USA's site flash seems to help a little, anex A obviously...).

Currently my d-link gamer lounge uses the billion as a modem.

My SMC is very reliable ...... and I think they're going for around R500 or R600 now. my 2c.

Netgear DG834GT is the best in my opinion.

I have one for sale - brand new unopened. Let me know.

But the DG834GT doesn't even support ADSL2+, and the 834N does, as well as having some extra features. Is the GT so popular because of the slightly lower price?

I have no problems with my Billion 7300G, it rocks!! It's stable, the wireless was so easy to configure and the support guys were very helpful.
If it ever died I would definately look at getting a new 7300G or another Billion model.

I had trouble with my telkom router what i got with my dsl installation. Then switched over to a D-link router never had trouble again.

Just stay away from Microcom routers, if you can still find any. Our school got one as an emergeny replacement after our SMC one died a few years ago. Not a week goes by that I don't have to reset the device at least 3 times. It also appears the company went bust, so there's no tech support, nor firmware upgrades.

SMC makes some good stuff, worth looking into.

I think it is save to say, what ever router u pick don't pick A telkom one.

Linksys - owned by Cisco - the kit that runs the internet! Can't go wrong - surely
